While in drydock we had alot of free time so I got a job as a bouncer in a bar in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. I began dating the woman who would eventually become my first wife. When he found out his wwoman was banging an enlisted man on the Franklin, he called the Executive Officer on my ship and they worked out a plan to make my life miserable. Well aside from being accused of sabotage, I was also charged with drinking alcohol on board when the Exec found an empty gin bottle in my locker during a surprise search ( I wonder how that got there?).

Good. I'm glad to see you realize that in a few years you will look back on what a great job Bush did.

I dont like Reagan, but I dont think it was he who sent our manufacturing(wealth creating) jobs overseas with Nafta/GATT during the Clinton presidency. Reagan did nothing to help us, but he did not pull the entire rug out from under us.

Well, I suppose so, but that's not where the smart money is going.

Rather than highjack this thread, I promise that when I get a little time, I'll start a thread where we can hash this out. It's all part of one of my favorite discussions: the difference between Democrats and Republicans (or, these days, Dumbocrats and Repugnicans). Just too busy at work these days.

In the meantime, for your listening pleasure, here's John Boehner singing the House Republican theme song: YouTube - Groucho Marx - I'm Against It

(Oops, not Boehner. Some other guy. Oh, well.)

Not to stir the pot or anything, but a friend who has very different political views from mine told me this weekend that she was "up in Washington to be there at the Inauguration."

I told her that that was really interesting, because I would have PAID MONEY to have kept the Inauguration as far away from my a** as possible!

I think it is a shame that folks would ignore the fact that the Inauguration, (no matter who is incoming and who is outgoing) as the seamless transfer of power is one thing that exemplifies how great this country can be. Ignorance is ignorance, not bliss as far as I am concerned.

Perhaps she was just reacting to the same thing that kept me away from the festivities -- the fact that the whole thing was a mob scene and it was enormously frustrating to try to go even short distances.

On the other hand, my son did go and said it was one of the most memorable experiences of his life.

I was thinking the same thing. I went to my last 4th of July on the Mall about 15 years ago and didn't get out of there until the wee hours - the Metro just can't handle the volume. Those events are a young person's place. These days, I'll enjoy a beer and watch the festivities on TV in the comfort of my home.
