I am sorry but I do not think that any of the above including Dimly Lit Bogseat (thanks honey!) hold a candle to those monsters of rock & winners of the Eurospasion Bucks Fizz.

    Lordi's act
    a) was original. you definitely remembered it come voting time
    b) had good music to it.
    c) had less than good singer's quality.

The total act was good. And all in all much better than the rest of the contestants imo.
It's not just the quality of the singer's voice that gets rated. It's the entire act.

Btw you mention that you are a bit of a singer. The people who sign up for idols or the X factor say the same
Some of them are right....a lot of them are not.

As for Lordi, don't know. I haven't even heard their song. As you might remember I didn't watch that year.

Why is it that I feel that we in the USA really dodged a bullet on this one?

That depends entirely upon your perspective Mark.

I hadnt realized quite how many death metal bands have entered the eurovision song contest in the past. Either that or this thread is being hi-jacked.

    Sorry Sir Sidney!

I felt a little guilty yesterday that the thread had wondered off slightly. Lordi were the first rock band to win a Eurovision, and they were also the first to use pyrotechnics too as part of their act.

To get things back on target, as we know most of the acts offered are cringeworthy at best, but which acts have left you mentally scarred??

In more recent years I have to say it was the Germans with their Country & Western act, including fake cow and pink gingham!!

Then there was that guy that looked like Christopher Biggins with a roll of tin foil on his head, possibly from last year, claiming a preggo memory loss moment here.

I wonder how quickly U.S. readers will spot this Eurovision winner's Unique Selling Point?

I seem to have forgotten that I started this thread and have started another. So I would ask your attention be directed to: http://straightrazorpalace.com/conve...-2009-ftw.html

Alternatively a mod could make the two into one thread ^^
