yeah, there's definitely no precedent for a democrat president making life difficult for gun owners.

Assault weapon ban != general ban on guns or ammo.

no, but it was a general ban on magazines for nearly all weapons. i don't know anyone that thinks obama wants to make all guns illegal, but it's reasonable to assume at some point he may try to do something similar to the AWB.
hence, people have been stocking up. it hasn't been deer rifles flying off the shelves, or dove shotguns. it's been ar15s and glocks, etc, etc.

Thanked: 13249also see Prop 45
We all know that the Left will have to make a gun play ... they have to, it is ingrained in their brains "Guns are Bad"
The only thing that is different now then in the past is that the Supreme Court made the decision that the 2nd Amendment meant that we as citizen's can own guns... It did not however say that we could own ammo, or define what is a firearm that we can own, and the push points now are for "Tagged" ammo and gun registration...
BTW before any of you leftistssay "What's wrong with registration" look to your history books.... "For those that do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it"
BTW Bruno this is what we gun owners call Slipery Slope politics....
Assault weapon ban != general ban on guns or ammo.
There are already way to many gun laws that do absolutly nothing in the US, that coined phrase "When guns are outlawed only outlaws will have them" has been proved all over the world ....
In answer to the OP yes there are problems finding ammo, part is because of the War, part is panic buying!!!
Lead and Primers have been short for years now....Last edited by gssixgun; 05-18-2009 at 08:00 PM.

For what little it is worth, I have been a life NRA member since 1976 and an annual member for a few years before that. I don't think President Obama is coming after our guns, at least not all of them. The scuttlebutt became that he wasn't going to take the guns but the ammo. This rumor started the panic buying and created this situation.
I didn't mind the assault weapons ban. I have no interest in having more firepower than my local law enforcement agencies nor do I anticipate having to defend myself against a banzai charge. Ammo that can penetrate body armor that the police use and such stuff should be restricted IMO.
As far as more anti gun legislation, if they would enforce what they already have it would go a long way in fighting crimes committed with firearms. Unfortunately the politicians use their anti gun lobby to promote themselves every election cycle rather than having the integrity to admit that they haven't pushed for enforcement of the laws already on the books.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

While not a current gun owner. I plan on purchasing soon. I live in a conceal and carry state. There are plenty of folks south of me in the deserts of Oregon that do things that would make some people run and hide.
I understand that the police are stretched and sometimes they are not going to be there. I need to be able to defend my family, period.
Furthermore I look at the problem from a different POV.
I may not be able to serve for health reasons but according to 2nd amendment I must be able to defend my country if called upon. The military is broken, and the National guard is not here. We as a people are. If you own a gun, and a militia is rallied by the government, you better be ready to stand up.
Just my 2 cents. YMMV

1. not yet, not at first.
2. standard deer hunting ammunition will penetrate a cop's vest. because it's from a rifle. and a cop's vest is only good for stopping pistol rounds. should standard deer hunting ammunition be illegal?
3. i agree. shooting people is already illegal. if someone doesn't follow that law, why the hell would they be interested in following other gun laws?

As a gun owning, gun rights promoting vocal supporter of one's right to defend oneself......who ALSO happens to be a left-wing social uber-liberal on most topics, though believes in (WHAT I BELIEVE TO BE) social conservatism......thanks for the good, even discussion.
And yes, ammo seems to be in short supply.

Thanked: 90See now, this sorta' proves my point. The 2nd ammendment is not a left/right issue, at least, it doesn't have to be. I know a number of liberals who aren't "gun-grabbers"
The assumption on your part that they somehow have it ingrained in their brains is as narrow-minded a stereotype as Michael Moore's assertion that the NRA was founded by the Klan (it was actually not, for any of those here who thought that "Bowling for Columbine" was somehow based on fact).
Instead of assuming the worst of liberals, try persuading them to try out some shooting sports. Try to plant the idea in their heads that citizens who own guns aren't a threat to safety and security.
Divisivness doesn't solve problems, it makes them more intractable.
Edit: Gssixgun, I don't mean to imply that you're narrow minded. I don't think you are actually and I hope my post didn't come across as insulting. My apologies.Last edited by joesixpack; 05-18-2009 at 08:06 PM.

I however do not know one, not even one, that doesn't think there should be some type of gun control.....
I actually don't get the wool pulled over my eyes on this issue, there is NO middle ground to me, there is NO bad gun, good gun here, there is NO reasonable law.... There only is my Right to own what gun I want....
I do not vote Democrat or Republican myself, I vote 2nd Amendmant...
The only gun law that makes sense to me that I have not as of yet seen proposed is the requirement of a safe...I would agree with that, lock them up if it is not your carry weapon, so that they cannot be stolen....
BTW we are getting wayhere apologies to Zib
Also lets make sure we keep the discussion very, very, Civil Gents
I know I myself have a tendency to get very "involved with Gun Talk".....

No problem what so ever, I did not take it personal....Last edited by gssixgun; 05-18-2009 at 08:26 PM.
