Ammo Shortage
Are any Firearm Enthusisat's, mainly in the US here, having trouble finding rounds? I would buy ammo where ever it was available, Normally, Cheaper than dirt, or online, Even Wal-Mart to some extent. I don't like buying it at the range, as I feel the prices are inflated, but lately, there seems to be a run on Ammo due to the Obama administration. Anyone else feeling the pinch. I recently started vacuum sealing ammo. I have that food vacuum sealer, and thought it'd be a good idea to seal some of the high dollar rounds I have a bulk of, like Win SXT's, stuff like that....

I noticed this when I picked up my gun recently. The ammo display was devoid o'bullets.
Frankly, as an NRA member, I think the who "Obama'z cummin' fer our gunz" hysteria is a load o'hooey. He's off doing other things. I do not appreciate the manufactured fear promulgated in the 2nd Amendment Magazine and by Wayne LaPierre.
The other thing which concerns me is the idea of all the ammo being in the hands of nervous people!

Thanked: 0I know nothing about guns so please patient try to be patient with me, are you talking about lead slugs pressed into brass casings? why do you need to vacuum seal them, I would have thought the lead-brass seal would be pretty good, how long do you intend to keep them?
Or is it rather that you don't want the outside turning green which I'm sure you would not want to put into a gun and would have to clean first (so of course you would want to seal them.)
Maybe this is slighty OT since you are more concerned with the shortage rather than sealing them, but I need to be edumacted damn it.

1. yes, there is an ammo shortage. there are 2 reasons:
a. there is a war on. it's been impossible to find 5.56mm stuff for years now
b. people are lemmings and buy into hysteria
2. there is no point in vacuum sealing ammunition. i have shot 50 year old milsurplus stuff that had been in a soggy warehouse since the Korean war and it worked just fine. if the crimp is that sloppy that you need to vacuum seal it, you shouldn't use it anyway.
in an interesting aside, i make my own ammo, and it's been getting hard to find bulk gunpowder anymore. gun shows are still your best bet for powder and primers, but do NOT buy reloaded ammunition from a gun show.

Here in FL for the more popular calibers not only are live rounds hard if not impossible to come by but brass in you reload is just as bad.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Speaking as an outsider, I think the whole notion of Obama coming for your guns is just right wing propaganda.
Even if he wanted to do it, you should credit the man with intelligence (though after 8 years of Bush, I realize that it's a new concept).
He -knows- that this will turn half the country against him, and he is having much larger issues to deal with than the restriction of guns and ammo.
Political games will be played by both parties, and he might even spread rumors to that effect. But I firmly believe that once the ammo factories can keep up with the current demand, the price will plummet because there will be no restrictions, and people will have little use for more ammo than the million rounds they already have in stock.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

yeah, there's definitely no precedent for a democrat president making life difficult for gun owners.

Assault weapon ban != general ban on guns or ammo.

no, but it was a general ban on magazines for nearly all weapons. i don't know anyone that thinks obama wants to make all guns illegal, but it's reasonable to assume at some point he may try to do something similar to the AWB.
hence, people have been stocking up. it hasn't been deer rifles flying off the shelves, or dove shotguns. it's been ar15s and glocks, etc, etc.

Thanked: 13249also see Prop 45
We all know that the Left will have to make a gun play ... they have to, it is ingrained in their brains "Guns are Bad"
The only thing that is different now then in the past is that the Supreme Court made the decision that the 2nd Amendment meant that we as citizen's can own guns... It did not however say that we could own ammo, or define what is a firearm that we can own, and the push points now are for "Tagged" ammo and gun registration...
BTW before any of you leftistssay "What's wrong with registration" look to your history books.... "For those that do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it"
BTW Bruno this is what we gun owners call Slipery Slope politics....
Assault weapon ban != general ban on guns or ammo.
There are already way to many gun laws that do absolutly nothing in the US, that coined phrase "When guns are outlawed only outlaws will have them" has been proved all over the world ....
In answer to the OP yes there are problems finding ammo, part is because of the War, part is panic buying!!!
Lead and Primers have been short for years now....Last edited by gssixgun; 05-18-2009 at 08:00 PM.
