In Science magazine this month, the recent discovery of an even older hominid ancestor apparently (haven't read much of it yet myself) casts even more doubt than previously thought about how chimp like our ancestors were. Online Extras: Ardipithecus ramidus All the material is made available FREE (woo hoo) so you can read all about it yourself. I'm gonna go absorb much of it now myself. *glee*

To share the excitement and wonder of the natural world. YAY!
One of the interesting points about Ardi is that the canines are much smaller than many apes of the time. Canines were use for male sexual confrontation and the lack of them supports the hypothesis that monogamous relationships may have developed. This also might explain why Ardi's big toe was still opposable yet had developed some upright walking characteristics, useful for carrying food and supplies back to your mate.

Get ready for it. The moon takes a hit! NASA is trying to determine if there is enough water on the moon to use for long term extra terrestrial human activity. They plan to watch the blast from the impact to detect signs of H2O. Less than two hours away as of this posting, but I can't keep my eyes open any longer. I'll have to watch the vids with everyone else instead of live as I'd hoped. *sigh*

This bit had me laughing:
There is no danger of the proposed dinochicken escaping and populating the world with dinosaurs, Horner said, since only the chicken's development, and not its genome, would have been affected. If the creature did somehow escape and could mate, the result would just be a regular chicken.

Actually, I found that part a bit reassuring. I sure wish they'd hurry up. I wanna meet Dino Chicken!
