The B.O.B.
Coming in to work today there was a lady on the bus that works at the USGS here in town and she was going on about how her building and co-workers had to sit through this seminar about this huge subduction quake that was coming.
It is supposed to start on the coast and work its way inland. This would cause all the bridges to collapse and the West Hills to collapse due to liquefaction.
One of the other passengers asked how they would get out of downtown Portland, since the bridges are gone and the hills are impassable. I said well you have to hike 10 miles to Barber Blvd. then 10 miles to Beaverton. I told them they better have enough food and water for 1 week.
They said that they would stick together and ride it out in the city. I almost laughed. I asked them to Google Bug Out Bag and then make the decision.
I for one have a B.O.B at home for my family and I need to get one for work. I will be out of downtown as quick as my feet can carry me.
Does anyone else have a B.O.B? What do you keep in there?

I do not. I probably should, but I think the number of natural and man-made disasters through which I have lived has made me a bit blase (Loma Prieta, among other quakes, 9/11 in DC, the Oakland Hills fires of the early 90's, tornadoes in Wisconsin and Iowa, blah blah blah). Now that I have a munchkin to consider, it seems a good idea to consider getting one together.

I have several in different degrees
for hurricane evacuation I don't figure I need ammunition
each level includes the ones before ie level 2 includes level 1 bag
the levels are
1 basic (look it up) +flare gun + concealed weapon + 100 rounds
basic issues like storms
2 indeterminate
one month supply of energy dense canned goods, additional water purification capabilities, lithium primaries, 10 gallons of stabilized fuel, poison, heavy pain killers, additional concealable weapon with 200 additional rounds
++++ don't feel like listing it all
2.2 scary
includes basic firearms, 2000 rounds 22, 400 rounds pistol in all weapons taken (9mm 357 10mm 22) 250 rounds each rifle 300 win mag and 6.5 Swede, and additional batteries
30 extra gallons of stabilized fuel
3 SHTF (not kept inside residence)
classified due to contraband
just keep in mind that level 2.2 is fairly drasticLast edited by gratewhitehuntr; 05-21-2009 at 03:14 PM.

yes, its coming like the big one in Southern California which means it could come tomorrow or in 1000 years. I wouldn't be too concerned about it anyway.
Even if you have your survival gear ready unless you have a 50cal machine gun mounted on your roof how you gonna fight off all the armed people who will be trying to take what they can.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

A friend and co-worker bought 1,000 rounds of 223 and wants to get another case of ammo. He wanted to know if I wanted to go in with him on it. I have 40 rounds. I figure if I need more than that I would probably be history anyway before it was gone. Of course I have maybe 200 for the .40 S&W not to mention the 12ga riot gun with 00 buck so I have a fighting chance.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Here's what's in mine...
Water bags, water purifier, water bottle, Lipton's Pasta Sides, jerky, mixed nuts, power bars, tent, poncho, change of clothes, windbreaker, gloves, bug net, bug spray, fixed knife, small radio, compass, AO maps, batteries, flashlight, lighter, zip ties, duct tape, small pot to cook with, utensils, hygiene kit, first aid kit, 550 paracord, body warmers, fishing kit, ammo, emergency blanket, and a few other little items like gum and lip balm.
My bag weighs about 26 pounds. Went hiking last fall and it did pretty good. I didn't use a lot of the items, but I still like having them in my bag.
Also, when I leave the house, I always have my pistol and a pocket knife on my person.
