Negative Rep
So recently some of us have gotten the dreaded negative rep. Just as you can approve of someone's post you can disapprove as well. I got one the other day for saying that a guy who tattooed a girls face is a creep and deserved a beating. Sometimes when people give you rep, negative or positive they make a comment and sometimes they don't. Unlike the "thanks" system where the name of the benefactor is listed for all to see no one knows who left the negative rep.... unless the donor chooses to identify themselves. So Ray (Rajagra) just got one. He is not sure what fault whoever left it found with his post. Nun2sharp and JMS have recently received negatives. I only know because they told me or they posted about it. None of them know who left the neg.
I just went to Ray's page and viewed his statistics. On a person's page you can view their thanked posts but it doesn't give a statistic for their negatives. So what is the point ? Is it to let the individual poster know that someone disapproved of their post ? I'm not knocking the system or suggesting that someone shouldn't be allowed to leave a negative, I'm just trying to figure out what the system is about. To be honest I am glad that the person doesn't have to leave their identity with their negative. We don't need retaliatory negatives going back and forth or ill will between us when we are here after all is said and done because of our love of straight razors and shaving with them. Just food for thought is all.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 234I actually wasn't aware you could leave negative rep until Ray said someone had left him some. I guess it makes sense, though, checks and balances and all that.
It does seem a little cloak and dagger on a public forum, where you can (more or less) freely express your self - that is, if you have a problem with a post, it seems to make more sense (to me, at least) to just make your point.

Yes, if you disagree with someone jump into the debate and say so publicly. Express your view. OTOH, maybe the person is doing that and leaving a negative. In life you have to take the bad with the good so I guess if you can get a positive you should expect that a negative is also a possibility.

ive been here only a few months and have receive 4 or 5 negative rating...
one said "you are crazy ignorant" when i posted something on about global warming...
most of the time people get negative feedback when someone decides to disagree with you...
its a little pathetic though...

Anything that you can not do publicly with your name attached to it should not be done. If you have to be ashamed to be connected with an action, dont do it. As I have said in another post, I have never negged anyone for their opinion or for any other reason even though there are many opinions I disagree with. I guess what I am trying to say is this, If youve got something to say, show your face and say it, hiding amidst the crowd and murmuring is less than masculine. Especially when you consider that you are pretty much anonymous on a forum anyway, why hide?
It is easier to fool people than to convince them they have been fooled. Twain

The only negatives I've ever received were in the conversation forum. Maybe that should tell me something
Find me on SRP's official chat in ##srp on Freenode. Link is at top of SRP's homepage

I don't like the idea of anonymous rep...
Maybe have an FU! button next to the Thanks! button so everybody can see.
