Thread: Negative Rep
-

Okay, just went to look and see for kicks if I'd been bitten. Along with all my thanks there is one (green, does that mean it was positive??) about my post in the SRP T-Shirt thread asking for a picture of the keychain... comment reads "chady rocks - shameful self agrandization [sic]"....
Can anyone explain this???Last edited by BKratchmer; 06-25-2009 at 06:44 PM. Reason: My denegrator is a crummy linguist

I was unaware of the negative rep. I've had a couple of disagreements with advice I've seen given here, & I'm sure others have disagreed with mine. Each time the issue has been resolved before the end of the thread. I've never had a situation here where I'd want to detract from a fellow member's reputation.
Edit: No, I can't explain that. I even had to look the word up. He spelt it wrong though, as far as I can establish!Last edited by ben.mid; 06-25-2009 at 06:50 PM.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think you can add to a person's rep by clicking the small box with the heart in it under their avatar. Not sure how this differs from saying "thanks", found this on a whim one day while goofing off.

Thanked: 586I still am not sure I've a firm grasp on the rep thang. I am guessing most folks know I pretty much speak my mind. When I read something that touches a nerve I adress it right then and there. Oddly, of the five times I have spoken up to someone, three times I was told I shouldn't have done it. I was told, "You should take it up with the Mods." or "That's what the rep is for (which I didn't understand at the time)"or, "You should have sent a PM instead of publicly humiliating the guy." So, it is apparent that no matter wht I do it seems to irritate someone.
What bothers a bewilders me is when I take issue specifically with one member regarding a specific comment and a third member who is not at all involved decides to step in to defend the member whom I had addressed. I gotta tell ya, I have been in more than one bar fight because of someone minding someone else's business.

I'm pretty sure I've left negative comments as a joke with something funny for the recipient written lol. THAT can be fun. Otherwise, I can understand the system, but don't know how I feel about it. Is it necessary? What IS necessary about a reputation system? I thought the original idea of being able to click a +1 for a post was great, but it had little to do with amounting rep and never got put into place anyway. At this point, it's all just kind of... um...

I propose the FU button should look like this
or this
or maybe this (my personal favorite)
(removed)
I really couldn't care less if someone leaves negative rep for me, but I'm EXCITED about the FU button idea !Last edited by gratewhitehuntr; 06-25-2009 at 08:05 PM.

Thanked: 1903You are right. Hoglahoo did a field test (which almost cost me a green zit), and the result is as follows:
- Thanks adds one point to someone's rep.
- Positive rep adds as many rep points to someone's rep as you have rep power (go to the main page, your rep power is in the upper right hand corner of your user cp field).
- Negative rep adds half as many negative rep points to someone's rep as you have rep power rounded up.
Quite simple, really. And I find it quite useful, too. Except when it's misused in order to harass users.Last edited by BeBerlin; 06-25-2009 at 08:15 PM. Reason: I hate maths.

Not quite...
Eg. If I have rep power of 11 and slap you with neg rep, your rep total will drop by 5
If my rep power is 1, it will still be worth one point, unless I don't have enough posts yet for my rep to count (hypothetically)Find me on SRP's official chat in ##srp on Freenode. Link is at top of SRP's homepage
