I don't know about a mastiff, Basil holds his own pretty well. It is apparent though, when he starts singing the blues that Mr. Toes is wearing on the poor dog:

You need to teach Mr Toes a lesson in who is the boss. Buy yourself some moth balls and leave them in strategic places around the house, aka, anywhere that is warm. Leave him only the cold draughty places to plan his enslavement of the free world.
