Yea, N. Korea is rather odd. I was reading an article or maybe it was a photo blog from a gent that went there on a tour. He mentioned most of the information the people get there about Kim is from outsiders. The guy also points out there is a trophy building with plaques of all the countries. IT was said by the gent this was probably a way for the government to show the outsiders love them and in a similar aspect a way for outsiders to view the brainwashing. However, this was only 'A' article I read and doesn't mean this is the true way of things around the area.
I think the US knew there was something going on there many years ago. I used to work in the nautical charting area and the US put a massive rush order on all the waters surrounding the N. Korean area many years ago.
As for McD's... I agree that it would be viewed as a familiar food flavor and style on a global level aside from the small things like mayo for fries versus ketchup.

Thanked: 155Been there (don't ask). Dreary, depressing place. Not interesting at all. Makes central Africa look like a wealthy paradise.

A friend of mine who was a participant in the Korean War circa 1952 is fond of saying,"The only thing I got out of being in the marine corps was diarrhea, pyorrhea, gonorrhea, and Korea."
Funnier to hear said than to read I think. Read it out loud and you'll see what I mean.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
