I love Bob Dylan. The first time I saw him in concert was 1967. I think the tickets cost $2.00.

A genius IMO and I've been a fan of his music since the '60s and I still am.

Old memories flooding back. My father used to sing this song to me:

I don't want to hijack the thread BUT..... this is the best version of Dylan's hard rain here

Love me some Dylan. Blood on the Tracks is one of those as-perfect-as-you-can-get albums. Blonde on Blonde is a great one too. Saw him a few years ago though and was thoroughly disappointed. The bugger played piano the whole show- sat on the side of the stage with his back to those of us stage left. Never moved- and only sang 2 songs I even recognized- and that only by lyrics, not even by melody. Hope to catch him again though.

    All over the Willburys.

For straight poetry though, from another gravelly voice- old school Tom Waits speaks to me a bit more.

I've never been a fan until 5 years ago when someone (a big fan) forced me to listen properly. Like, really listen. I can see the beauty in his songwriting and lyrics (Blonde on Blonde, Blood on the Tracks), but man that voice annoys the hell out of me!

I realise this is going to be taken as heresy, but... Dylan's songs are great, butb he's one of those artistes where (in my opinion) other people covering his songs tend to sound better.

I know, I know, but I'm a big Jimi Hendrix fan and Byrds fan, and both those bands did better Dylan songs than Dylan did, I reckon.

(OK, now I'm going to duck and cover!)

Comin' at ya easy here -- no need to run and hide!

Dylan's voice can be a put-off if you don't give it a chance. But when I hear someone say they don't like Dylan's voice I think of someone who says they don't like Bourbon or Scotch without having given it enough attention and time to develop a taste for it. But I accept that there are some whose tastes just do not lean in that direction.

As far as covers of Dylan songs by others, there are some good ones. Even though the material is top-notch it takes some skill to make the performance live up to it so I give lots of credit to those who can pull it off. I think most attempts at it fall short of the original.

My wife and I are both fans of Bob.

I have never had a problem with his voice (although I have to admit that I didn't like Love and Theft because of the way he sounded on the album).

My favorite Dylan album would have to be Desire, but I also really like Nashville Skyline, Blood on the Tracks, Slow Train Coming, and John Wesley Harding. Oh, and his early folk songs are great too. Hmm, Ok I guess I like the majority of his work.

A few years ago my wife and I were able to see one of Dylan's Ballpark concerts. After a number of hours of waiting in line we within 20ft of the man himself! It was an amazing experience

One of my favorite Dylan songs, I do like the other songs, All Along the Watchtower, Hard Rain etc, but this one seems to put me in a good mood whenever I hear it.
