Thanked: 235I just recently got over it. Everyone here in Bangkok is panicking over the flu. I've had great fun trying to scare people and generally spreading the disease. Not to worry, its already run rampant through my school. I think I caught it off one of my students. One thing I found that helped was chewing on whole cloves of garlic. Anything that tastes that disgusting must be good for you.

It's the summer season, so slow time for lots of media.
I think it's good that there's attention for new illnesses, but the plain old flu is killing hundreds of people per week for the rest of the year. There's a lot of scaring the public going on, but I do get the feeling people get numb to the news anyway. That'll be fun when something serious happens.

I wish you and yours a speedy recovery ..... even if you don't agree with me in that other thread.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 9Sorry to hear about the illness, this thing seems to be everywhere.
Why are people giving vaccines to people who have the flu? I thought vaccines were to prevent you from getting the flue , not curing it.

My daughter recovered fine. The whole episode really does make me think that the world media is pumping up swine flu to be something it's not. My daughter has certainly been more unwell with other bouts of illness in the past -- this was mild in the greater scheme of things.
GregJDS -- Thanks for the good wishes. Tamiflu is not a vaccine, it is an anti-viral drug which lessens the symptoms of flu and can shorten the duration of illness by one day on average. But it needs to be taken within 48 hours of falling ill -- any later and the effect is lost. It is likely of course that my daughter's mild symptoms may have been partly down to receiving Tamiflu in time. And she was lucky not to feel any of its stated side effects (nausea mainly).
