Favorite MINOR discworld character
Ok now for a different discworld poll (which by necessity cannot be done as a poll): what is you favorite minor discworld character. Someone who only played in 1 or 2 novels and then died or was never heard of again. Someone who features in many novels but always in a very minor role is allowed too.
Mine is Mightily-Praiseworthy-Are-Ye-Who-Exalteth-Om Oats. I really loved his character in carpe jugulum. Too bad he was never brought back for another story.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

See, now, I'm kind of fond of "Bloody Stupid" Johnson...who was never even IN a book. Such towering incompetence deserves a full novel.
I'm also quite fond of 71 Hour Ahmed...

Don't let the horrible, horrible covers fool you (they are AWFUL...turned me off of the books for years)--the discworld novels are really good reading. Clever, witty, and possessing hidden depths of wisdom, hey really are more than just fluff. The first couple of novels are good as parodies of fantasy cliches, but after that the world really takes form and the characters are truly well developed...Pratchett is something else.
I can also highly recommend the audio books read by Nigel Planer (up to #24 or #25...after that they changed to Stephen something or other...a horrible, horrible reader. Ugh.)

The marquis de fantallier.
"The last words of a surprisingly large number of people were stuff the bloody Marquis of Fantallier"
Kind of like B.S. Johnson.
There's so many though.

Another good minor character is Brutha the novice in 'Small Gods' which is one of my alltime favorites. I am currently re-reading it. For the 8th time I think.
I also like Lu-Tse, but since he appears in Small Gods (I had forgotten and only now remembered), Night Watch and Thief of Time, he is disqualified for this poll, since his appearance in Thief of Time is a major character, and even in Night watch he has much screen time.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

I'd say Brutha's character is kind of a main character as well though.
I like the Philosophers in Small Gods.
They're awesome....all of them. But they need more towels.

And the luggage?

Brutha is indeed a main character, but only in 1 book.
The luggage, not my favorite. I mean, it's an interesting character, but without any depth and it doesn't ever 'add' anything to the story except eating or opssibly trampling things.
Btw, the University dean also makes interesting appearances, but I would not know it he qualifies as minor or not. Bit borderline, that one.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

It's been a while since i've had a really good Pratchett fix. I'm surprised he's so popular here! I'll have a think & try to contribute to the thread title. What a phenomenal imagination that chap has!
