Thanked: 1How am I "talking out of my ass"
Premeditation involves preconceived thoughts and a plan to carry them out. Oh... wrong word, then... gee... duh... oh, well. Hardly? Your condescending spirit pisses me off. You need to be bitch-slapped into the next province. So, yes, David is a good guy... and you're the bad guy.
What we did most of the time in Viet Nam was reactionary. None of us grew up thinking we would be put in a postion to kill other people just because we were told to... but we were. It just doesn't matter what the reasons were. Ever kill anybody, whatever-your-name-is? Justified or not, there is a pain that goes with it, and it lives with you the rest of your life.
I have killed 28 people. And many times, I was not very nice about it. My first thoughts in Viet Nam were, "why should I shoot these guys, they haven't done anything to me?" I was a happy-go-lucky wet-behind-the-ears youngster like you. Younger than you, by the way. Then, very early on, my 6-man recon team ran across a fellow American who had been captured, tied to the ground, had a hole cut in his chest where a wood fire had been built... all while he was still alive. Why? Just to be mean. I became mean...
Be glad you are in a passive country that doesn't get as involved as we do. But know this. Also be glad that you are directly above the country that keeps your country safe. Someone who attacks Canada would be dealing directly with us, you can bet on it. The world knows that. That allows you freedom at no cost.
You can offer up your sarcastic witticism and obnoxious comments about anything on these forums as you normally do, I don't care. But when your ideological ass gets in the middle of our veterans, somewhere it don't belong, I'll will jump in the middle of your chest every time.
But hey, it takes a big man to admit something like that, and it's clearly been grating on his conscience.
But hey, and Hardly is condescending. Try listening for a change, you may learn something besides the rules of grammar.

Blade Wielder,
You need to grow up. Your age is really showing. There is an old saying "If you have nothing good to say, Don't say anything" You should take note of that.

Thanked: 1Back on topic,
Respect Uthed, and if you ever feel to talk to a complete stranger in the middle of the night drop me a line.
To all others, out of respect could we continue the discussion elsewhere?
Thank you kindly,
Hoekie/Theo

Every wasted paragraph of your last post was beyond condescending, urleebird, so don't preach to me about "obnoxious comments" or God forbid, "wisdom."
"To reflect, ponder, or deliberate beforehand" is the definition of the word premeditated.
This thread's author said, "In the pursuing 22.45 very measured minutes...I saw the poor face of the third boy I killed...I knew EXACTLY what I [was] doing...I knew it was entirely illegal, both in the USA, and internationally."
That fits the definition.
I'm not passing judgment on what you guys did over there. I'd likely do the same things if I was ever put in a similar situation. It's just that the comments about "finding fault elsewhere" stuck out for me in an announcement thread about a veteran's admittedly illegal actions.

Time to move on
Greetings Blade Wielder,
I'd like to recommend that you drop this subject. Clearly and unfortunately you have offended men that were placed in situations and circumstances that you have not, and hopefully never will be. These were young men who at your age went through hell and were forced to become warriors very quickly. They are to be respected! Pursuing this thread will only cause further discord. Do the honorable thing and walk away.

I hope that you will find the peace you seek and so richly deserve. I was a policeman for 15 years, medically retired now for an on the job injury, and shot a man in 1994. I can still remember every detail, even the look on his face. He is dead now and I can't ask him, but I know if he could he would want it to be me instead of him. That is the nature of such encounters. I salute your ability to respect those boys as warriors and honor their memories.
If I might politely and respectfully disagree with you on one point ... does your location on a map make an enemy less of an enemy? I would say no. In my eyes you are not guilty of any crime. I lost an uncle in vietnam, and had another come home horribly scarred both mentally and physically for the rest of his life, so you'll excuse me if I'm a bit biased toward vietnam vets.
I thank God for men like you and the others who fought/fight for this country. I am fortunate to have served my time in the Marine Corps during peace time, but I was prepared then and would be there now if they would let me.
Again, I hope you find the peace you seek. You've earned it.

Dave, I salute you.
I salute you and all of your brothers and sisters who have battled in war to secure the freedoms which I, and all of our members, enjoy. For that I extend my sincere thanks to you and all of your bretheren! THANK YOU!
I have family members who fought with you in Viet Nam. Some are still there both physically and mentally. I am fortunate never to have experienced the winds of war. However, not everyone is so lucky. We, as a nation, owe a debt of gratitude to our veterans and those who currently serve in our armed forces.
Thank you and God bless you, Dave.
