It will pay for itself reminds me of the old days of Solar, LMAO when they would sell a system that would pay for itself in ten years, but forgot to tell you the the panels only lasted eight before needing replacing.....

Never forget numbers never lie, only people lie and OMG "YOU LIE" was never so true....

    WE CAN"T AFFORD IT...
And from a practical stand point this also nails it for me!

To add to your point (World Military Spending — Global Issues), we spend 48% of all the world's expenditures on military spending... Is that really necessary?

Well we should have voted in someone who promised to get us out immediately.

    Oh wait:
Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama said Tuesday (jan 30, 2007) U.S. combat forces should be out of Iraq by spring 2008 to end “a foreign policy disaster,” but he stopped short of endorsing a cutoff in funds.
    What happened?

The other problem I see is that the federal government is Constitutionally charged with the duty of national defense, not healthcare insurance

If by "we" you mean the US federal government, then we can't. We can't afford half of what we spend. You could eliminate the US military and we'd still be spending more money than is collected

This is the kind of reasoning that leads up to $11T debt. The current total debt should not dictate what we can spend so much as the current budget deficit. If there is any money leftover this year AFTER expenses, THEN let's talk about what new things to spend it on. In the meantime, the government should be streamlined to only provide what it can actually pay for. If it can't provide it all, then let it raise taxes, import fees, etc. or let the private sector provide it

If one wishes to remain a free and sovereign country, it is. Which begs the question: Are we a free and sovereign nation still?

    Slightly off-topic:

Well the issue is that some people consider having troops halfway across the world as "national defense". I'd say that's more of an offense than defense, personally. The other issue is that if we're going by the Constitution, then our troops should have never been there in the first place because there still has not been a declaration of war.

So why hasn't our leader seen fit to pull them out as he promised? Maybe a promise doesn't mean anything to him, or possibly there is a need to have them there beyond the info we civilians have received.

Which is it? I don't know. Do you?

I wish we would. If it needs to be amended, then let's amend it instead of ignoring it.

Well, you (the US) couldn't afford the war in Iraq either. That didn't stop it from happening though.

That is so true. Iraq clearly didn't spend enough, and look what happened to them
