Rep. Joe Wilson apologized.
My question to all of you is, do you think he should have apologized? Further more, was it right that the Republican leadership made him apologize?
Now, President Bush got boo'd and heckled during his 2005 state of the union address by a large portion of the Democrats in attendance. Was that appropriate? He was heckled for pointing out that Social Security was in serious trouble.
Both Pelosi an Obama stated that they liked disrupters as this was a good thing and very American. Was Joe Wilsons comment any less American and why?

I voted yes. It is a matter of manners / courtesy.
Also, (I could be wrong as I didn't read the bill) what he said was not correct (the illegal immigrant thing) so on that basis alone he should have apologised.
Btw, this has nothing to do with my views of Obama, democrats or republicans. If someone is speaking, you shut your mouth until he is done, and then it is your turn to speak.
Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

The outburst was over and above the booing Bush received in my opinion. He should have apologized and that was the right thing to do. North and South Carolina have been impacted as much or more than my state of California by illegals flooding in and dragging down the society and state, so I can understand his acrimony. But the bill has specific language about not giving this Health Care to illegals. They will still plug the E.R.'s with minor medical problems like they do her Cally. That's just one of about a thousand reasons why someone would be that ****ed about illegals being in our land.
I personally thought it was like the kid in school who waits until its quiet and yells some obscenity to get laughs. He thought he was being cute and his cronies would get a kick out of it.
He was wrong, but I temper that with some understanding.

I don't think he owed an apology. If one is going to do what he did they should do it with strength and conviction. He petered out to save his ass.

I voted yes, he should apologize, and I've got several thoughts on the issue.
First of all, in the name of fairness let me say that I voted for Bush twice and I did NOT vote for Obama. Also, I'm 100% against this health care reform, and I'll even admit that my reasons are 100% selfish. I have really great health coverage paid for 100% by my employer, and I don't want to risk messing that up. Yeah, that's selfish and short-sighted, but it's honest.
Now, My first thought is that it is pointless to compare this to democrats booing Bush, because it was a separate event. It's the old "2 wrongs don't make a right."
As for why this particular action deserves and apology, there's a couple of reasons.
1. It was HIGHLY unprofessional. This was not a debate. It was a Presidential address. If this was a debate, or if Wilson wanted to hold his own press conference and come right out and call Obama a liar in that forum, I'd be fine with it. But not like this. Whether you like it or not, and whether he's a liar or not, the President is due a certain level of decorum, if not respect. This kind of behavior is an embarrassment to politicians everywhere, and that's pretty hard to do. It's like embarrassing a nudist.
2. It's counter productive to the anti healthcare reform movement. This is the same as the idiots shouting and brawling at town hall meetings and making up idiotic stories about "death panels." It adds nothing to the debate, and may even turn people away who were on the fence and might have been convinced by well reasoned debate. There are lot's of good arguments against this health care reform besides my own selfishness, but these sorts of antics distract from those arguments instead of reinforcing them.
