It is still occasionally a punch in the stomach for me but she is doing much better. She has boundless energy. We have to have her do leg stretches as the tendon they reattached is stiff and I bet shortened.
She fell the other day in the parking lot. when she got up she said "I am glad I didn't get run over again". When people ask her about her leg she says in the most innocent and proud way( proud is not exactly the right word but it's close ) "My daddy ran over my leg". Its cute and brings a smile to my face while simultaneously ripping my guts out.
Boy am I ever in for it when she recognizes the pain her innocent comments cause me.Last edited by JMS; 10-03-2009 at 08:48 PM.

All's well that ends well. My oldest fell down the basement stairs once. Scared the hell out of us. When it comes to the car, either everyone is sitting strapped in, or they are standing in front of the car (at a safe distance of course) where I can see 'em , or the car doesn't move.
A woman in our streets ran her kid over with the car. Right across his stomach. Ruptured liver, but the lining held so he didn't bleed to death. In the end he healed good as new. One inch either way and he would have died from internal bleeding caused by either a crushed ribcage or a crushed pelvis.
Interestingly: ther is a pic of me changing my oldest' first diaper. I had dark brown hair then. In only 2 years, it was grey. 2 years after that, it is a sea of grey.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.
To spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the Last Day

Mark, it may be a punch in the gut to you, But I was pleasantly surprised by the way she said that with a bit of a giggle and a wink. I kinda got the impression that it made her feel tested and tried as one of the boys and the fact that she dealt with it as such really impressed me.

A Father's Elation
My dear Mark,
I am delighted to hear your lovely little girl is recuperating well. Children are tough and resilient.
My little girl, now a grown woman, was one hell of a soccer player. A sweet, gentle and loving child, she was small but at the same time tough and with incredible speed. As a sweeper, she would spit out fancy forwards like cherry pits.
I was her first coach, and taught her not to let the big girls intimidate her. "You're a smarter player than they are," I advised, "and you're faster and tougher."
She proved me right.
So you see, my dear Mark, children are tough. I dare say, often tougher than their parents. Your little girl is tougher than you think. She also sounds like a remarkable child. Please give her a big hug — and another from me.
Regards,
Obie

Hugs, I understand, are also great medicine. May she skip, hop and jump safely soon, Mark.

Update
I must admit that this update is not easy for me. Not that Sandra is not doing well. Quite the contrary. It is just that if I spend any length of time considering the mishap that tore a portion of my daughters leg off I begin to tear up and cry.
My little girl is doing quite well! With the exception of her scar, there is nothing in her gait or attitude that suggests that there was ever an accident.
I was noting to my friend tonight that I found it interesting that while Sandra showed absolutely no outward signs that I had ever run over her leg, if I spent anytime considering the accident I would begin to tear up and cry. My friend noted that while Sandra would point out her scar to her as if it was a point of honor she never assigned blame to anyone.
My girl is okay and in short order I will be okay.

Hi Mark,
I'm glad your little girl is doing better! Always remember, time heals all wounds, even the memories.
All the best to you and your family!
