Thanked: 0Actually, Cornell was a land grant university, but is now private and of course was originally funded by Ezra Cornell who gave the land, . Rumor says its the nicest campus in the US, but I have yet to go there. The vet school specifically is also private due to only partial funding by the state legislature as many other private universities receive public funds for certain schools. It only receives partial funding for a few of its schools for the legislature. There are no public Ivy league schools. Cornell also is not very old by many standards and was actually the last to enter the IVY Leagues and not nearly as old or steeped in history as other land grant Universities. The first being the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences ( I could be wrong because I don't know where this is nor have ever heard of it), I heard this on a trivia game at a bar.
It would seem your persecutor was removed, and apparently you are an immigrant as well who is displeased, its a shame they aren't all productive like you. I take it he can't respond so rudely anymore so good riddance. You talk about your Dad, but what research did you do? By the way, many researchers get invited everywhere, your Dad I am sure is the greatest in the world, but there are many great researchers. I had a college professor who was famous all over the world and happened to help a man named TC HSU ( a Cornell researcher I think) discover the Human number of Chromosomes and guess what, he was from Alabama, not educated at Cornell or ever later associated with the school (he hated NY in general).
Also, much military research was funded through private companies (is. Pratt and Whitney, Boeing, Lockheed Martin) who use military data and bases to further research and make weapons etc.. and they are private profit driven publicly traded companies.

So how can you make statements about it? I go here and live here...
Actually, the vet school, alogn with the college of agriculture and life sciences, the school of industrial labour relations, and the school of human ecology are all land grant and STATE schools. If you look up lists of college rankings you will see that Cornell Private and Cornell State are listed seperately...
The aforementioned colleges....
What does age have to do with anything?
I'm 19 what research do you think I've done?
Look up ISER- the international symposium on equine reproduction. He helps plan them and even ran the 7th one. That would be the biggest one. Recently he was lecturing in both the Netherlands, and a little before that France. He has a few ground breaking theses on repro in various species. I would tell you to look him up but I'm not giving out his name.
Thats funny, my dad grew up in rural Namibia (in Africa) 40 km from the nearest other family. He was invited to teach and research at Cornell, but after 8 years quit because he hated it. He now teaches at Missouri State while doing research on Angus breeding. (others can back me up on this, as they know I went to visit him over the summer)
Publicly traded companies yes- but where does their funding come from? Lockheed Martin's latest two jets- the F22 Raptor and F35 JSF were both funded by DARPA. As was almost all military research. Who do you think buys weapons? Sure Joe Sixpack buys a bolt action .303 now and then, but the US Army buys how many thousands of M16's from Colt?Last edited by khaos; 09-25-2009 at 03:35 AM.

Overview
"I would found an institution where ANY person can find instruction in ANY study"
I have friends attending CALS (ag + life science) for free because they have NYS grants because they couldn't afford it. Just putting that out there.Last edited by khaos; 09-25-2009 at 03:43 AM.
