Well Eluveitie's version is much better imo.

    Great thread!!!

I love hearing music I have never heard of before. Keep it coming.

I grew up on George Jones, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, ... . (even though I was a kid in the 80's my dad only listened to the "good" country music).

I bought 'Ashes' from Tristania, knowing only their early works. I discovered to my horror that they really turned 'sucky' to say it nicely. I really like their early work though. It has helped me through many a programming death march.

Sirenia is good, though in their last 2 albums, there is too much 'beauty' and not enough beast.

One of the last cds I bought (well, put on my christmas list) was this 'Elixir for existence'. The best song on the CD was this one imo, and resembles what tristania used to stand for.

One folkish metal band which uses various old instruments, tunes and languages in their music is In Extremo from Germany.

Regarding the beauty and the beast, I can't help mentioning Nightwish. They mostly do their own material, but the singing in this phantom is quite contrasty.

I have this album too, good one. I prefer the song "Lithium and a Lover" though.

This is another one I discovered by accident and liked very much. Sadly, the group abandoned all classical influences and became just another commercial metal band. The dialogue near the end of the song comes from the film 'Masque of red death'
