I have seen change in the last 10 or so years and I truly think there is some GW going on. 10 years ago all winters were cold, now its just hit and miss. I live in Texas where the weather can change by the time you go in the grocery store and get your grocery's and come back out 15 to 45 minutes later. Not like that much anymore, unless were talking rain, and it can go from sunshine to rain in a matter of minutes, always has n always will ! That's just Texas weather for ya ! Winters are not as consistant as they were in the past and I do believe it is due to global warming. That's just my 2 cents worth.

Yin Yang. Without those small buinesses, who is left to pay for the science? Mega Corps never pay unless there is something in it for them, nor do the poor regardless of who's horse is in the race. We fight, they cozy up to their money sources and tend to their base of sheeple and laugh at a divided electorate.
I would like to see a little more humility from these policy makers before adding new layers of BS. Fire them all and put in real people.
Just dreaming..Last edited by Kingfish; 12-11-2010 at 02:00 AM.

Yeah, I don't know of a small business that needs knowledge of the climate, so I am right, kill that NASA organization and if the big business wants satelites they can build them with their tax savings.
Joetheplumber can do just fine without GPS, he can find the next pipe that needs fixing by just sniffing the air. Unless he becomes one of them real people who get sent to washington, of course.
It's just over a month since a whole bunch of those elitist policy makers got replaced with real people and in another month it'll all be fixed, I'm sure. Deep tax cuts for everybody with a job, and they can each decide how much to pay their doctor, teacher, fireman, cop, etc. After all they already do that for their butler, driver, cook, landscaper, masseuse...

I think you missed they point Gugi, it is not the small buisness man that is against NASA and science, is badly squandered resources that are the problem. I think we can and should have it all, but we can't let their pet issues keep dividing us as they jet about.
We are all making sacrifices, Government still does not get it, so they borrow money from China to fund themselves putting us deeper and deeper and asking us to sacrifice more and more. We need better management not more, thats all.

Just one more note, Joe the plumbers are out of work, at least in many parts. They let off workers and so on. How does that help. More jobs, better health care and more tax dollars.
I was not voting for Joe, but their taxes pay my salary as a teacher......only when they have work. Yin Yang. It should not be either one or the other. IMHO
ALL OF THE CUTS IN EDUCATION ALWAYS START AT THE BOTTOM, THAT IS WHERE THE VOTES ARE. That I believe is done on purpose.

Well there is climate and there is weather...
If we consider the small businesses in Florida that grow
citrus they need both. If the climate is going to change
should they be planting apples or bananas to replace the
orange and grapefruit trees that the frost is threatening now.
If climate change indicates that seal level will rise then
planting apples or bananas does not matter because much
of Florida will be under water (salt water).
As far as weather they need to know with some economic certainty
that the weather tonight risks the fruit on trees. To cold
and the crop is lost and may be mush if it freezes. Pick it too soon
and a lot of people get unripe fruit. Since it takes more than
an afternoon to pick an orchard the weather model needs to
be reliable a week out perhaps more.
Now there is something going on that does need attention...
Why is this NASA and not the Weather Bureau? While I believe
that NASA has unique knowledge and insight in this area I am
curious how this research is within their charter.
GPS was a defense project not a NASA project.
Having directed howitzer fire gun and target location
are key... the fact that I can use GPS to navigate
with my cell phone is just magic.
Then there is the safety of truckers and ships at sea.
Truckers and autos stranded for 30 hours with temps
on the order of 17F (-8C) can be lethal. The "Lake Effect"
snow in the Eastern US has recently been astounding.
Then there was the collapse of the dome in Minnesota
which makes a case for climate research that can
advise designers with a 40 year lead time.
Ships at sea... how is it that a mega luxury liner
could be tossed and abused at sea off the coast
of Egypt.
Rare storm hits Egypt | Egypt Then and Now
While the cruse line that owns this ship is not a
small business consider small fisherman. Consider
that even large businesses like the owners of the
Costa Europa do not have the resources to address
weather the way cooperating national weather bureaus
do. And yes people were killed securing the ship
to the pier.
"We sadly have to confirm that three crew members are deceased. We
can confirm that three passengers and one crew member were taken
to the city hospital. The ship is now safely docked in port.
Rereading -- I sound like I am ranting... sorry for the rant
but I believe:
Climate and weather mater a lot.Last edited by niftyshaving; 12-14-2010 at 09:50 PM.

Science gives us progress in both knowledge and power. It is the forfront of human progress. When science is cast aside, we all lose out.
