It's hard science in the sense that it's a solid theory with both observation to support it and no falsifications to discount it. Because it can't be replicated due to the impossibility of being able to survive such a situation, doesn't mean it's not real.

And I'm not saying I'm particularly sold on the idea, but if you agree with the scientific method, you can't really call it pseudo-science.
