You are very welcome Jim. No thanks necessary. I'd do it all over again. If I wasn't so damned old I'd be in uniform in a war zone right now.

The point of the day is to honor veterans

So when you say you think Veterans day is a load of crap without an explanation, it appears that you think the idea of honoring veterans is a load of crap

Were you hoping to get people to shoot from the hip?

PS thanks for your service Brad!

I was more expecting a dialogue with perhaps some thoughtful comments on what might make the day not crap from a veteran's point of view. I certainly didn't insult anyone. Yet poor Mr. Shooter's blood is boiling over there. Well you really should learn to cool off there Shooty. I have had the converstaion many times with many fellow vets, they tend to agree w. Tell me Shootley, why would my dislike of a given holiday "make your blood boil?" What would happen if I told you I didn't like Columbus Day either?

It really ought to be EirÃk the Red day ... or was it Lief EirÃksson ... or was it Amerigo Vespucci that discovered America ? That is for another thread though.... guess I'll bring it up on Columbus day.

Well first of all, I am a veteran of the US Navy and, since my honorable discharge in 1981, have never gotten the day off work. I see how the schools are closed and the mail doesn't get delivered but I see nothing that honors us veterans.

Perhaps I am missing it. I'll ask my fellow vets, what has come for you personally to honor you as a veteran on Veteran's Day. Do we get to see a movie free or a free bus pass. How about a sandwich and a bag of chips? Anything?

Now back off you people. I said nothing against veterans. I love veterans! Some of my best friends are veterans. I am a veteran! I spent four years of my life defending your country. I was prepared to die to protect you and your familiies and your way of life. I did not even imply any disrespect to myself and my fellow veterans. I said I don't like the day.I gave much of myself for you folks and what do you do for me? I don't feel very honored after reading your snotty comments and thinly veiled threats.
And.....it would have been a lot more appropriate to have said this to begin with. The world is about you Dude.

i think every one on the computer is a tough ass, and run at the mouth, i agree with brad what does it do for us vets???? i have pride everyday! unless your a loud mouth vet that is still overly gun-ho about the things you didn't do in a war time tour! i served in the USMC, i also know personally the person that is ICEDOG, who is more than a giving and thoughtful DUDE!, and more of my friends that are vets old like my father from korean conflict to his friend ssgt sanborn triple purple heart winner and still alive, my best friend whom is on this site will all say the same along with other members of my platoon that i still talk with, can't stand vets day! most vets don't even brag about there service! like i said unless you haven't been there for real! it's not about getting anything for free for the day...but rather the lack of constant support from our government and people for our vets and troops now and then! i feel that the founder of this great site telling someone that there free speech or how they feel should go packing is just great! then might as well make the whole site rated G and tell everyone they can't think or act or feel as they wish!

    happy veterans day!

Oh I don't know. I like free stuff. I think us veterans should get some pie. I like pie. I like free pie even more.
