Thanked: 431How 'bout some cheese to go with that whine dog?
Get stiffed on the agreement?
Contact the VA dude.
If where you live there is no little bits of goodies as appreciation, then move, or just get your panties out of a wad.
Maybe you're in the wrong place or hang around the wrong places or the wrong people, go find somewhere that makes you feel better.
No one likes a cry baby.
Now, go suck your thumb through a straw bud.

Now see, I can't tell if you're joking with him or if you're serious, but . . .
. . . you can't let a veteran have his say on Veteran's Day? That's part of what I've always hated about the day. While I appreciate the heartfelt thanks people offer, the holiday isn't really for veterans. It may be about veteran's but it's really for everyone else.
That's all I have to say, I guess. There's a lot of emotion involved with the whole topic and I don't know you so I'll leave it at that.

Thanked: 1936It sure was a nice day today, I didn't ask for it, but it was nice. Drank a few beers & worked on finishing up the shop...heck of a Veterans Day. Hope all of you had a good one as well, first brewski was dedicated to you fellow vets. Ya, it was nice and cold. Today was a blessing...

Happy veterans day to all. what you have done for this country is beyond any repayment you could receive!
As for your original post Brad, you knew what sort of responses you would get mr puppet master. No need to feign innocence. You are not a stupid man so I know that if you didn't want the reaction you got you would've taken time to explain your comment in the opening post.
I do believe it was uncalled for and shows a measure of disrespect to our veterans and the members of SRP.

Thanked: 586Actually I am showing a deep respect and appreciation to you and all other veterans. That is exactly my point. The day is (in my opinion) not geared toward veterans at all. It is a vague comment about vets and a big day for pushing department store sales. There was less concern for active members of the military when I was in. My last year in the Navy I was paid just under $9,000.00. I fed my wife and two children with food stamps and side jobs while not at sea. When my enlistment was up, I was told I wasn't eligible for unemployment benefits because I could have re-enlisted. While many enlistees received a college tuition paid by the G.I. Bill, there was no such benefit available to Cold War vets. I do get a flag but not until I die. I tried to get my flag early, so that I might enjoy it but I was told to call back after my death.
Control Freak, I guess you told me. What does it mean when you suggest one "suck your thumb through a straw?" Further, I am not sure what "agreement" you are referring to. I am guessing you yourself are not a veteran.
I actually had a very good day myself. I spent a few hours in the shop helping Wulfgar re-handle one of his razors. He is an excellent student, eager to learn and is gratified by the results of his meticulous work.Last edited by icedog; 11-12-2009 at 07:24 AM.

Thanked: 4942Thanks,
Now you have had your say, Icedog and his bud Wulfgar have had their say, a few others have and so have I.
I can't help but see some entitlement mentality going on here and personally I think that's a shame. I was not a fan of the Army, but am grateful to have both been in and out. Yep, the pay was sub human. 3 squares. Bye Bye. Guess I have a flag coming too although I doubt I will care much at the time.
To me the day is more about being thankful to those who have served, those in service and to those who have served and were injured or died. As a result of that respect and the memories of some pretty good dudes no longer with us, I choose to simply honor the day. When you are consumed with your own entitlement, walk the wall in DC or take a stroll through Arlington........

Thanked: 586Yes Lynn, you are right. I have had my say and I thank you for the opportunity as well as the forum. Additionally you are correct regarding there being a sense of entitlement but not for me personally, for all veterans, you included. I am doing okay for now but I see alot of folks with some serious issues but incomplete care. Every bit of care is delivered only after a long and arduous fight. It has been my experience that most civilians don't care about the servicemen/women. After a long patrol during the Cold War, my submarine was actually approved for a liberty stop in Fort Lauderdale. I wouldn't expect welcoming red carpet or marching band but I sure was disappointed to see about fifty civilians protesting and yelling at us telling us to "go home".
Anyway, thanks again for your service.
Brad
