Stating the obvious, IMO, the quote is a thought that can only be interpreted if you are fifty or over .... then it has to be interpreted by each individual's own experience with being fifty. Whether they expected something special, unique...
I have just turned 61 and I was somewhat surprised. When I turned 60 the realization came to me that 'old' people aren't any different than they were ..... at least I am fundamentally the same inhabitant of this vehicle (my physical body) as the 15 year old kid except I've got more mileage.
It is hard for me to explain what I mean in words.... Thinking about it I guess that I used to think that older people were different somehow. I used to wonder what my mother or father were like when they were young. Now I know that they were basically the same when they were old as they were when they were young. At least that is what I think. Sorry if I am waxing too philosophical.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Lee, with considerable experience I can say that the only thing that I have found as addictive as nicotine is the SRP forum. .... and maybe razors and hones.
+1 I have to agree with you there Jimmy.

The whole smoking issue was, and is all about the smell. But you can,t instigate bans on a legal product because people don,t like the smell. So you say it is for the health of the smokers. The trouble is non smokers die of heart disease cancer ect. Enter the farce of second hand smoke. Now smokers are not just hurting themselves, now non smokers can blame all their problems on the smokers too.OK now they don,t want to smell a smoker even when they are not smoking. Enter the total absurdity of third hand smoke!
These people need to sit back with a good cigar or pipe and relax
To many people now days spend all their lives worrying about dieing instead off living. Life does not come with a gaurentee,so take enjoyment in the little things and live and let live.

I disagree and I do believe that tobacco smoke is harmful.
HEALTH HAZARDS OF TOBACCO
World No-Tobacco Day
I think the whole point is offering the freedom to smoke-free environment and frankly, adding tobacco to environment is whole lotta easier than taking it out... And we aren't talking about a total ban - you can still go outside to smoke if your landlord has requested you not to smoke inside.
No thanks (that's the point, mate), but I'll take a pint if you're having :beer
I totally agree with you on that living thing. That is true. Life needs to be grabbed by the hooleys and go totally bonkers carpe diem. =)

Just to illustrate my point, I don't disagree. Why should my love for, enjoyment of and addiction to tobacco cause other people discomfort and possibly even physical harm ? Well obviously it shouldn't. My perspective is influenced by coming of age during a time when 'we' the people didn't have a clue. Here is an example of the attitude of that day and time.

I'm very glad that you understand my point and you are so courteous to your fellows. I don't think we'd have any problem if everyone was as courteous as you. My hat goes off to you, good sir.
Though I didn't live the age you describe yourself, I can understand that smoking everywhere was normal back then and attitudes (and also knowledge) was different back then. It sometimes amazesme how much the world has changed even in 50 years. Boggles your mind to wonder how people 1000 years from now will shave. I mean, even straights are only 200-300 years old...
