Thanked: 259CONSERVATIVE/MODERATE/LIBERAL
this is not for a debate. this is just for reference for other members. the poll is to give each of us an idea where we all stand. members who would like to participate can also state a few of their beliefs. again i DO NOT want this to be a mud slinging contest, just informational.
i will start off stating that i am conservative and i believe in the following:
strong national defense
very limited federal government
limited state government
pro-life
limited taxation
freedom of religion/not freedom from religion
pro gun
marriage as between a man and a woman
balanced federal budget
deficit spending in times of disaster or war or national defense
legal immigration
strict adherence to the constitution
freedom of speech(no matter the subject)

Thanked: 1903Your poll lacks several choices. Where would a national liberal fit in? Or, for that matter, a liberal nationalist? Social democrats? Greens? I mean, the Good Lord gave us choice for a reason, don't you think? Besides which, it's all a bit of a snapshot, that poll, isn't it? Like, I've changed my political allegiances several times over the last 30 years. Excellent idea, otherwise.

Thanked: 259was trying to keep the choices down to just a few. basically it was for the ones here in the states. also i did not want a lot of debates started. just for informational purposes, not mud slinging and long winded theads. just general knowledge. also it also stated "for those who wish to participate" sometimes it is hard to understand where another stands and this will help somewhat(in general terms).

Well I was once introduced as "The only person in the world that could make Rush Limbaugh look middle of the road.".

Thanked: 96I'm half liberal and half libertarian.
Basically I'm a libertarian that likes science, medicine, and social programs to be funded.
In other words, I like stuff that's proven to work. (examples, guess which worked and which didn't): War on Drugs, Infrastructure projects to stimulate the economy...
Pretty much everything that is still debated, I can say, "Well, at such and such a time, your position was proven wrong." It's nice. I don't have to spend much time debating. That leaves more time for drinking, shaving, and not worrying about what people do in bed.

I am for some conservative values and some liberal values. I know that I can't stand Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid or Barbra Boxer anymore than I can Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh or Glen Beck so I suppose that might put me in the middle of the road.
I like the quote attributed to Winston Churchill."If your not a liberal when you're young you have no heart. If you're not a conservative when you're old you have no brains."

Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 234I'm not sure to be honest.
I suspect I lean toward liberal.
Also, that quote is misattributed to Churchil. I think it was a French guy. It would be curious if Churchill said that, he started conservative and became more liberal IIRC.
