Thanked: 259CONSERVATIVE/MODERATE/LIBERAL
this is not for a debate. this is just for reference for other members. the poll is to give each of us an idea where we all stand. members who would like to participate can also state a few of their beliefs. again i DO NOT want this to be a mud slinging contest, just informational.
i will start off stating that i am conservative and i believe in the following:
strong national defense
very limited federal government
limited state government
pro-life
limited taxation
freedom of religion/not freedom from religion
pro gun
marriage as between a man and a woman
balanced federal budget
deficit spending in times of disaster or war or national defense
legal immigration
strict adherence to the constitution
freedom of speech(no matter the subject)

Thanked: 1903Your poll lacks several choices. Where would a national liberal fit in? Or, for that matter, a liberal nationalist? Social democrats? Greens? I mean, the Good Lord gave us choice for a reason, don't you think? Besides which, it's all a bit of a snapshot, that poll, isn't it? Like, I've changed my political allegiances several times over the last 30 years. Excellent idea, otherwise.

Thanked: 259was trying to keep the choices down to just a few. basically it was for the ones here in the states. also i did not want a lot of debates started. just for informational purposes, not mud slinging and long winded theads. just general knowledge. also it also stated "for those who wish to participate" sometimes it is hard to understand where another stands and this will help somewhat(in general terms).

Well I was once introduced as "The only person in the world that could make Rush Limbaugh look middle of the road.".

Thanked: 96I'm half liberal and half libertarian.
Basically I'm a libertarian that likes science, medicine, and social programs to be funded.
In other words, I like stuff that's proven to work. (examples, guess which worked and which didn't): War on Drugs, Infrastructure projects to stimulate the economy...
Pretty much everything that is still debated, I can say, "Well, at such and such a time, your position was proven wrong." It's nice. I don't have to spend much time debating. That leaves more time for drinking, shaving, and not worrying about what people do in bed.

I am for some conservative values and some liberal values. I know that I can't stand Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid or Barbra Boxer anymore than I can Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh or Glen Beck so I suppose that might put me in the middle of the road.
I like the quote attributed to Winston Churchill."If your not a liberal when you're young you have no heart. If you're not a conservative when you're old you have no brains."

Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 151I am a Zell Miller Democrat (former governor of Georgia). Zell Miller was appointed to the Senate after a senator died in Georgia. When asked why he did not seek re-election his response was that Washington was so corrupt and screwed up that it could not be fixed.
Most importantly, I believe in states rights, state autonomy in matters of crime and education, and the right to bear arms.
I believe in funding for education because that is the future of our people. However, I believe welfare should come from private citizens. I believe in removing illegal immigrants, and requiring all immigrants to speak English, and have private healthcare insurance and to not qualify for any government assistance or loans in any form.
I believe the federal government should only provide the national trade and regulate international and interstate trade. I would also like to see every politician currently in Washington on trial and convicted of treason and dropped in the ocean with concrete blocks attached to their feet. I also believe that judges should not have to be lawyers and that most law was controlled by local people without law degrees. In my mind all crime should be handles by states so that if Georgia wants public hangings at the courthouse, they can do it.
I despise political parties and people who believe its ok to take my money and give it to other people for any reason. I support the death penalty for murderers, rapists, and child molesters and believe prisoners should work 16 hours a day 6 days a weeks and eat only what they can grow on their own.
Unfortunately, I am no longer in the majority, so until the country breaks up (which it will) I will wait for the current administration to run us into the ground so the process is spead up.

Thanked: 234I'm not sure to be honest.
I suspect I lean toward liberal.
Also, that quote is misattributed to Churchil. I think it was a French guy. It would be curious if Churchill said that, he started conservative and became more liberal IIRC.
