The End of The World?
Recently, mixed in with all the other media attention paid to Sarah Palin, there was some focus on her statement concerning the expansion of Jewish settlements in Israeli occupied territory: She said: "I believe that the Jewish settlements should be allowed to be expanded upon, because that population of Israel is, is going to grow. More and more Jewish people will be flocking to Israel in the days and weeks and months ahead."
Some have interpreted Palin's comment as evidence of her religious beliefs about certain events that will usher in the "end times" or the Great Tribulation, particularly since there seems to be no empirical evidence of any imminent "flocking" of Jews to Israel that would otherwise explain her statement.
So here's my question: Do you believe we are truly approaching a biblical "end time"? If so, would you support the election of a president who shares this belief and who might base certain foreign policy decisions on such a belief?
I trust the posing of this question will not raise any religious or political issues...

Thanked: 259down through history many have claimed the "end times are upon us" as you and i know, they were all proven so wrong.
if you study the bible there are signs of impending "end times". but it also says "the day and time of my return will be like a thief in the night" meaning to most that no one can precisely predict or know if it is truly "end times"
nice thread and should prove interesting...

BTW until we all realize that we are being played by both parties this BS will continue....
"Vote them all out in 2010 and 2012" no really vote for your party, or your issue, who cares, but vote out anyone with more than 2 terms... NEW BLOOD...

From a biblical perspective, I believe the bible says something about it happening when no one is expecting it. So if a large population believes the end is near; how can it be?

I really have to agree with Glen, the toilet is full of turds, both left and right, its time to flush that thing and get some clean water flowing thru it.
To get back on topic, I think there is a lot of room for interpretation, and most people interpret in their favor to match their belief system or lack thereof. Personally with my belief system, its just a matter of time, how much? I do not know for sure. But as Jesus warned, "Take ye heed, watch and pray."Last edited by nun2sharp; 11-29-2009 at 11:00 PM.

Really ? I know from reading his epistles repeatedly that one man who thought the end was nigh was Paul the apostle. Obviously he was mistaken. Hoping not to offend anyone but..... I read of an old country church that had a billboard in front of it that said, "Christ Is Coming." Within sight of the church was a roadside tavern that had a billboard that said,"Have a beer while your waiting."
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 96GoP won't run Palin for Pres. She would get, oh so very destroyed by Obama. Obama could take a 3 year vacation leading up to the election, announce that he is a secret muslim communist who plans on supporting a reparations bill, who also eats kittens... and still destroy Palin.
The Right can only win by moving center. Bush destroyed their chances of a winning to the right, by running center, then governing right, then running right and governing more right... and leaving with an ~ 25% approval rating. Maybe 2016 a more "right" republican will have a chance, but 2012 is too soon for the moderates and libertarians wounds to have healed from the machete Bush took to individual rights.
No offense to any fans of hers, but Palin is a very unintelligent woman. She spouts right wing bulletpoints and platitudes, but if you watch her for awhile, you can clearly see that she doesn't even understand the words coming out of her mouth. She's basically the opposite of Cheney. Cheney knew what was going on, but refused to let people know what he was thinking. She believes she can make you see just how well she understands everything, so she babbles nonsensically, reciting whatever buzzwords she can remember with a wide grin on her lips and eyes that betray her thought process.
...
She's thinking, "Nailed it!"Last edited by IanS; 11-29-2009 at 11:25 PM.

I do not believe that the end would come in 2012. It is just another step in childish beliefes people are trained to get scared of. Remember millenium?
I once saw a t-shirt with a text on the front: Jesus is coming. On the back there was 'Jesus is going'. That made me think about this:
If the Bible says that there will be no signs before the coming of Jesus, how can we know that he hasn't already returned? Maybe he came and saw all the bs he's been linked to during the last 2000 years? And maybe he decided to go back quiet, like a thief in a night and leave us people to take responsibility for our own actions. Mysterious are the ways of the Lord.
That would be really bad think for some of our leaders. They couldn't any more tell people to do this and that just because Jesus/God/Allah said so, but rather to live with the consequenses of their own actions?'That is what i do. I drink and i know things'

This planet seems to have existed very well by itself a very long time before humans ever set foot on it and will in all probability continue to do so after we are all gone. Kind of smug if you ask me that we really think we have some influence on its ultimate fate unless we acquire the ability to blow it to smithereens and do it.
