Yeah, I don't understand this either. I get a piece of mail saying, "Be on the lookout for another piece of mail?" Completely unnecessary. Like (the real) Bubba, I know how much all of this advertising and direct mail costs (I used to work in advertising and consumer mktg.), and even worse than the cost is the miniscule effect it has. This isn't going to have any significant effect on the census responses. Period. That's why you get so much junk mail, because it's a big-numbers game.
Write a letter to tell folks someone might stop by their house? That actually sounds like a prompt for scammers to go out and knock on doors, not a warning to citizens. Hey, now we're expecting strangers! Sure. Come on in... Iced tea?
And, for all of the non-Americans who aren't being inundated with the job ads - these aren't plain ol' government workers. They've had a massive hiring campaign where anyone can sign up to walk door-to-door and help people fill out the form. These aren't cops or Marines being reassigned, they're regular folks who do a part-time, temporary job for about $15/hour walking around their own neighborhoods. More waste.

Thanked: 155This is nothing new, I have participated in three previous censuses under three different administrations and this is pretty much standard behaviour. I didn't vote for the current administration, do not support 99+% of their agenda and hope they all go away in 2012 but, I have no doubt that this would have occured in any event and will probably occur again in 2020 no matter who is in control at the time.

Here is a little something to watch. It is what I will be doing as I see that most of the questions are in fact "None of their business." If the federal government really wants to increase compliance with the census, it should abide by the Constitution and limit its inquiry to one simple question: How many people live here? The United States Census Bureau turned over names and addresses of American citizens of Japanese descent to the Secret Service during World War II. Though it’s glossed over in history courses, during World War II the U.S. ran its own internment camps. They were considered “too dangerous” to go about their daily lives, for “reasons” which seemed reasonable at the time, but which we know were so much crap. Even J. Edgar Hoover opposed the internment on the simple grounds that there was no good reason for it.
It’s true that if you bow down like a good little slave and do exactly what your government masters tell you to do, they’ll let you live, they’ll let you keep some of the money you make hiring yourself out, they won’t beat you too badly, and they won’t interfere too much with your cheap entertainment, so you won’t bother to think about more weighty affairs, like, say, liberty, self-determination and personal responsibility.
Like I said, I will only answer the questions that comply with My/OUR Constitution.
If you like the life of a well-entertained slave, then by all means say nothing as the government compiles database after database, and dossier after dossier. After all, nobody in government would ever use that stuff to hurt you — as long as you do exactly what they say and give them all of their money. May your chains rest lightly. But if you think you should be master of your own life, then you should by all means oppose any government database which tries to contain all or even most of the population.

We have no such thing as census here (i think big brother knows already everything about our lives) so what kind of questions it is about?

I like the video. The .gov website cites Title 13 section 221 (Doesn't say Title 13 of what) as a requirement by law that all questions except for any related to religious preference must be answered. If not, the respondent is subject to a fine of not more than $100.
