Yes, it is wrong to blame the victim.
How often do we see this in TV news coverage.
Right now there is a CNN agenda to blame the
Haiti government for not rebuilding the housing
for nearly a million people living in make shift
tents.
I hear questions being ask BADLY.
Worse the questions are designed to set expectations
that can never be met. OK designed to generate ratings
but they are clearly not designed to help the social
situation.
I am wondering if we emptied 10,000 Home Depot
stores if there would be enough material
to address the needs.

Thanked: 335holli4,
If you had a TASP with you and if you were close enough to the thief to use it, would you have ruined his day and knee(s)? It may have made your day and maybe nipped a fledgling felonious career in the bud, but would you have done it? If not, it's not worth stewing about and losing more sleep. Get the window fixed and stash all what may appear to be valuable.
And then get a TASP.

I understand the warnings to remove valuables from the car to make it less desirable as a target, but taking it to the next step and claiming it's someone's fault that their car got robbed is a step too far in my opinion.
As a high-tech kid I'm very low tech with my AAA maps as guidance.

Wow, I'm really impressed this post drew so many responses. Thanks for all your support, guys.
I ended up taking a taxi to work today and bumming a ride home. Still have to call the insurance people. I have little to no mechanical inclination and few if any tools, so I'm not going to mess with it. I'll go through insurance and hopefully I'll get things fixed up soon.
I was lucky it wasn't raining hard yesterday, and I don't think it rained today (been inside all day... again), but I have the window taped up with a garbage bag and packing tape. Still have to vacuum out all the glass - with so many layers of clothes on to stay warm at the rink, I just sat on it when I drove home last night and took off a layer of clothes before I went inside my place.
Anyway, I was shocked awake this morning by my alarm and been working all day, so I haven't even had time to think about it at all. AKA not mad about it anymore. So, off to call insurance and then hot shower, food, and some booze. It was a short weekend by comparison to most, but it was still about 37 hours in three days.
Anyone else think it's odd that I'm checking email, ebay, and SRP before I shower? If you do... you just haven't been here long enough yet.

Oh crap yeah, for the foreign people: AAA is American Automobile Association, and one of the perks of being a member is that you can pick up maps from there. For the kids that don't know (what are you doing on an ancient shaving forum??!? ): It's like google maps printed on paper, not the satellite one, not street view, just the map. And there's no zoom function either.
Happy to hear you're doing a bit better Holli.

Sorry to hear that man. People who do that sort of thing should just be locked up. Its not major crime, buts it a petty low grade nastiness that makes life unpleasant for the rest of us.
Back when I was at uni I had some kids break into my car to steal 40p out of the change tray. Oh, and they ripped one of the speakers out of the parcel shelf and threw it into a tree as well.
Pathetic.
I hope you get your car sorted and arent too knackered for work..!
All the best,
Stu

Some 10 years ago my old Vectra got stolen at night. It wasn't locked. Took a day or two until police found it. Probably they were just some kids who had no better things to do. They had stolen few CDs and things that was easy to take without (luckily) breaking anything. Even CD player was intact.
It was kind of funny. On the same day it was stolen i had taken my old dog to the doctor as he got hit by the car. I had put a rag under the dog. I wonder what were they thinking when they stole that bloody rag They took also my daughters drawings from the glove box. Maybe they just liked them.'That is what i do. I drink and i know things'

Agreed. If that was the case then getting a new one versus extracting an old one would be darn near impossible or the labor would be more than the cost of the window new.
I haven't been doing much with glass professionally since I was 18. However, I do know what you're talking about, been there, done that and I hated those windows. We had to cut out the urethane, prime the track and the glass then apply fresh urethane and slide the window in there. Than manufacturers changed that and simply applied that track to the glass from the factory. All we had to do was slide the glass in the door, line up the bolts or rivets and... done. I can remember for door glass that Ford was almost always rivets with the track already adhered on, Honda's were 10mm bolts with the track already adhered on, Saturn you had to remove the exterior door panel and use a special tool to tighten the glass on. I'm happy those days are over but I did learn some valuable things.
I hope they didn't change it back to the old style. I feel for those guys installing it the hard way.
