I've also heard that one of the countries in the EU (switzerland or sweden I think) REQUIRES every male old enough to shoot a gun and young enough to fire it straight (I think the cut of was something in the 60's or late 50's) to have a fully functioning military rifle in their home ready for use. The same article also noted that this country had the lowest crime rate in the world
Every single state in the US which has instated a concealed carry permit program has had their crime rate drop. conversly, the states with the most gun control also have the worst crime.

Doesn't really matter to me either way, they will have to kill me to get my guns, but not before I take a few of em with me
