I'm still wondering how this correlates to my thread, and I'm not 100% sure I want to know

I agree with Alex. It's amazing how much some of the people who "modify" their appearances make that I know. I also agree that there are a lot of people who'll consider them unemployable...

Disclaimer, I am not equating Paco with Hitler. Paco's mustache is much bigger.
There is quite a large difference between saying people are inferior humans, and saying that they've done something very strange.

Well they may be less employable in certain industries, but all of the people pictured are far more employable in the circus industry than the average person, so maybe it balances out...

I'm tattooed pretty much all over my body. Full back, ribs, chest, full sleeves and most of my legs. Doing a large piece on my stomach now. Twenty five years ago If I walked around in short sleeves some people stared. Some were intimidated. I couldn't count the times I've been asked if I was in the navy back then. The average person couldn't conceive of someone just liking tattoos that much.

In the last twenty years getting tattooed has become increasingly mainstream. I've tattooed doctors, lawyers, a rock star and a TV talk show host. I tattooed a 78 year old women, her first one a week or so ago. This is not uncommon. If you want to be 'different' nowadays don't get a tattoo. As for me, I can put on a pair of trousers and a long sleeve shirt and you wouldn't know I was tattooed.

Being heavily tattooed is not as unusual as it was years ago and the social consequences aren't as negative. OTOH, once you cross that line and get a facial tattoo that puts you in the negative sphere of being heavily tattooed thirty years ago and beyond. Because of the price people have to pay, my late friend, famed tattooer Mike Malone called it "social suicide" and that is exactly what it is.

In the old days few self respecting tattooers would tattoo someones face. Obviously there were exceptions, I never have and never will. I consider it morally wrong regardless of the person's wanting it. If there is a debate as to whether these people will have a difficult time getting a job I would be on the side that would think they would be virtually unemployable. They wouldn't get hired in the tattoo shop I work in for one example.

I remember this exact debate in another thread some years ago over the bogus story of a girl from Belgium (I think) who had stars tattooed on her face when she "fell asleep" in the tattoo parlour chair. Turned out, of course, that she was lying to not get in trouble with her father, but all of the same facial tattoo discussions going on here happened in that thread as well.

I think that it is not so much what they look like that makes prospective employers think twice. It is more a case of, what is it about this person that makes him/her want to look like that?
Why do they want to look so different from the norm? Are they so individualistic that they would never work towards a common purpose?

Maybe they would be better suited to be self-employed?

Reminiscent of the Ralph Waldo Emerson quote,"Who you are speaks so loudly I can't hear what you're saying.
