Naturally, I don't have all the details and I know nothing about the law, but to me, the writeup (not just the charges, the whole thing) makes no sense.
criminal mischief-using the emergency slide renders the plane non airworthy until it can be replaced inspected and all that which would probably take a few days (FAA has very strict safety rules about that kind of stuff)

reckless endangerment- the passengers may have to pass by the open door (im not sure which door he opened) and someone could trip and fall out, others might think "hey he did it we must be allowed" and get hurt sliding out (just speculation). in general with the exception of the baggage handlers, no unauthorized personel are allowed on the tarmac, he could have interfered with other aircraft in the area or gotten himself hurt.

trespassing-he is an unauthorized person in an area he is not allowed to be in.

i dont agree with what he did at all, i think it was childish and unacceptable. i think he should be prosecuted. if its you just to deal with the public then you deal with the public. i know not everyone in the world is a good person and dealing with them on a daily basis can be stressful, but if you cant handle it then quit, in a little more respectable way. as for the passenger yes he broke the rules and should be held accountable for his actions as well, i dont think he should be at all responsible for the actions of the flight attendant, he didnt force him to act irresponsibly.

Three weeks ago I was returning from a job interview and got stranded overnight in Chicago O'Hare due to a severe thunderstorm. (I don't travel often, and hate to fly, but I only have about a 50% success rate with that airport) Surprisingly, the airport set up a lot of cots for the stranded travelers. Within 20 minutes about a third of the cots were occupied but by that point EVERY single pillow and blanket on unoccupied cots were gone. That's right, those who had already claimed cots for themselves helped themselves to 2, 3, even 4 blankets and pillows, ignoring that this meant those who came for cots later, and they did, would be left without pillows or blankets.

I couldn't stay in the area. It infuriated me that people would behave so thoughtlessly to each other. I envisioned myself yelling at the entire crowd telling them exactly what kind of excretory orifices they were
i have a perfect opposite example of that. i was coming home from iraq for leave and i got booked on a full flight from atlanta to cleveland. when the woman at the gate saw that, she went around telling people that the flight was full and i was on leave from iraq trying to get home, well after that i would guess almost half the flight went up to the counter to turn their tickets in for a later flight, they were only looking for one person to turn in their ticket but there was actually a line of people trying help little ol me. so i do believe there is some hope for humanity

Nope. I agree, too. Attention-seeking exhibitionist. If you can't get on a reality TV show... make your own!

All I think is it must be nice to have jobs where you don't have to deal with the public and the demeaning way they treat those in positions of servitude.

    Unhappy

I wish I would have read this sooner so that I could've responded to Utopians comment about his grandmother. I am 47. I remember better times when I was younger.I get heavily bombarded by peoples negativity daily and coworkers and it's really bringin me down.I'm trying really hard to find that silver lining in every situation,but...there have been so many times I wish the good lord would just take me out because this world is getting increasingly ruder and more and more selfish. I'll more than likely be dead in 30 yrs. but sometimes it just doesn't seem soon enough and sometimes when I hear about people passing on I think,"they are the lucky ones". This site is truly a haven for manners and nice people. I wish I could get out of this city and get somewhere a little more civil, but just getting up and goin is easier said than done, especially in this depression we are in...Yes I said it, Depression...cause we all know it's true. I wish there was something that could be done to reverse this horrible behavior that is becoming the norm in society. Have a nice day all of you and all the very best every day to you and I really truly mean that.

This guy certainly knew how to quit in style. I read this story from another news site. Sliding down the emergency slide with two beers is a way I would like to leave work every day. Pitty there is no beer at school, nor emergency slides.

I'm not 100% sure if it was so wise and considered decision from this flying gentleman, but hey: When everything else is gone, style remains!
