    "Le Torpilleur des rues" In Toulon France, the city had major sewer problems, so they came up with the idea to have these men go around every morning from street to street to pick the bed pans...........and other things.

    Happy Thanksgiving Day to all! Especially those away from home. Especially the ones, not in the daily news clippings nor headlines but doing their jobs non the less.
    My home away for two years of Thanksgiving radar patrols in the far north Pacific; back in the day, early 60's.

    The one I wish I could have shown, since lost, was of one of our sister ships with everything forward of the foremast out of water on a wave crest. Surfing in style!

    [QUOTE=NoseWarmer;668910]USS Iowa:

    Is that a full hollow grind on that ship? If hollow ground is preferred by the Navy over a wedge to cut through the water, that is good enough endorsement for me!

    Tells us more Carl I see a German swastika on his shirt, if I'm not mistaken it's a German Army/Heer Insignia would be nice to have a little historical insight and the history behind your Father.

    Been busy with the scanner. Here's few photos of my family members in uniforms & more.

    Here's my great grand father (father's father's father). During WW1 he served in Jägerbataillon Nr. 27 of the German army. As our civil war began in 1918 they were sent here to be a part of our white army back then. The man died in 1956, long before i was born. In the pic he's 1st row, 3rd from right. White Guard uniforms.

    And here's his son, my grandfather in his navy suit & nco stripe. The pic must be pre 1939. As the war begin in 1939, many navy members were transferred into army, just like him.

    And here's the same man standing by their house with his bride & their dog after the war.

    Here's their son, eh, my father in his rookie times. He served as a pilot in AF and died in crash landing with Fouga-Magister when i was a kid. Those planes were not known to be that reliable. He surely wasn't the only pilot who has died with these things.

    After my old man died, my mother got a job from London and moved there. I was actually raised by my grandparents. Here's one pic of my grandmother. Must be taken not before 1970 or so because even i remember that cow named 'Nupu'

    I have not so much pictures from my mother's side but here's my grandparents. The man died in the winter war. Damn i have no pics of his little brother, my great uncle who was the hearthies and most gentle person i've known. When the war broke up again in 1941, he wanted to join the army because he was angry because of his brother. Recruiting officials laughed and asked him to get back to his mother. Germans was not so pedantic so he joined the german army and served in SS Viking Division. He was just 15 years old. At the age of 17 he got a bullet through his lung somewhere near Crimean peninsula and that was the end of his war.
