People's memories of their youth are always wildly inaccurate. Don't you remember there being more thunderstorms when you were a kid, too?

You are right about that.I admit that snow piles surely looked taller when i was about one meter shorter.
That is almost the same answer i got from my kids when they were complaining about the weather and i told how it used to be at the old times. They said that the thermometers must have been inaccurate back then.
However calendar is the one that doesn't fail. It was typical here to get first high snow cover late October or early November even some 25 or 26 years ago. I remember some October morning when i first couldn't get my front door open because of the snow and then i tried to drive to work with my summer tires
During the last 20 years snow has arrived usually early/mid January and there has been 1 or 2 winters with no snow at all here on southern coast of the country
I agree with Wvloony that cold weather is not nice always. I work at the ship and sometimes i have to work out on the decks with deep freeze and hellish wind and it is no pleasure at all. Also sleeping is impossible when ship drives through and breaks the ice cover. Luckily i'm on vacation now but that low life waits me in January.Last edited by Sailor; 12-14-2010 at 08:59 PM.

Perhaps you missed this from the NOAA:
NOAA: Past Decade Warmest on Record According to Scientists in 48 Countries:
NOAA - National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration - NOAA: Past Decade Warmest on Record According to Scientists in 48 Countries
Just a bunch of scientist and climatologists. What the heck to they know...?

They know what Obama tells them to know. What do you take me for, some mindless, chrome-plated wingnut?
By the way, I was outside this morning for ten minutes and nearly froze to death. I suppose you would gloat over my frozen corpse about the dangers of global warmth too huh. What are you a penguin? You should ask Santa if he's hiring elves for the warm seasonLast edited by hoglahoo; 12-14-2010 at 08:53 PM.

Thanked: 9What doesn't make sense to me, is that in spite of the complaints in this thread about people freezing, we keep hearing about global warming being a bad thing. If so many people are freezing their butts off, maybe we ought to pause and consider that mildly warmer temperatures might be a good thing. There are scientifically documented, peer reviewed papers available that discuss the topic of warmer global temperatures and positive effects on humanity. I no longer have access to the same library of information I did as a student or I'd link to one.
I'm all for combating pollution and maintaining a healthy environment, but honestly I think this huge fight against global warming is silly. I haven't heard of anyone being killed by global warming. Lets invest the effort into something that matters...

Actually global warming or global cooling, they're equally good as long as you can predict them correctly and have the money&power to make the appropriate bets. The warming is slightly better since it brings more catastrophes (basic thermodynamics) and those are more profitable. If otoh you're in the wrong tax bracket, you probably ought to consider working harder
