Explain to me what a "global" temp is, if not an average of "local" temps.

You're kidding, right? You think that just because the jet stream takes a dip into the continental US for a few days and makes things chilly, that's relevant to the issue? There's a lot of information available on the internet if you really want to know how climatologists conduct field studies to determine average/ mean global temps. But if you think that just because it's cold in in parts of the US right now that's relevant to the discussion; sorry, but I ain't wasting any more of my time with you.

for the last two weeks here in Scotland we've had warmed up snow from russia supposedly, and it still managed between -15 to -20 degrees Celsius. 6 inches of snow on the central belt. Buggered up the buses and trains and I had some really interesting bicycle riding as well

I think it might be something to do with global warming, but i'm also aware its all to easy to blame it on Global warming, it may be partly responsible but I dont think its entirely to blame.

This is what the data show:

*interestingly, you'll note that based on the graph, that everyone involved in this argument was correct at least once. There was a brief moment in history were we all lived in climate harmony.

From the looks of it, they can't even decide how to define global temperature, let alone determine it

Kinda like how they're not totally certain the Earth is really round; sorta like gravity's only a theory. Now I understand where you're coming from...

Now, kids, this is why i respect sciences and and talks about scientific issues so much. Unlike some other topics, say political or religious, where people seem to have their opinions carved in stone, real science never knows the final truth. It is rather based on facts and statistics we know this far. Real science is also always willing to correct its former conclusion when/if any new evidence occurs.

Now most facts show that global warming might be going on. I do not give about dogs turd if its man made or not. What is done is done and so be it.
Some gentlemen here seem to be like army high officers: whenever shit hits the fan, their first react is to claim innocence and blame somebody else when the real issue would be how to fix things back again.
I am rather interested if there's something we can do about it and how to get prepared if it is to get worse.
I'm not worried for my tax money if my kids or grandkids are those to pay the bill. Just because we were greed enough not to care.

Now believe me, nobody would be happier if the GW proves to be fake than those who speak for it right now.

All I know is that its bloody cold here in London as well, with record snow fall forcast for the weekend.

The way I think of this whole climate change thing is this: The earth is, on a cosmic scale, a blob of molten rock covered in a thin layer of solid rock and water, surrounded by a layer of gases, hurtling through a vacuum at 18,000mph whilst being heated by a giant nuclear reactor. Can anyone tell me how we could possibly keep the temperature constant in that scenario?

Theres always been climate change and there always will be. The last ice age wasnt caused by people having 4x4's, it was just one of those things brought about by the fact that the only constant thing in nature is that there are no constants.

Just because no-one has found the fossilised remains of a prehistoric 4X4 it doesn't mean that there weren't any.
