Good luck Buddie!! Speaking from experience looking for work in the not to distant past, do not wait for any job application to come through. If your goal is to get a job take it on full bore. Turn it into a full time job looking and applying and any job that even remotely looks attractive. I had a few between where I was a few years ago and where I am now. Where I am now is not paying anything like where I have been and should be but it helps make ends meet and is better that the in between jobs. The job market is still in bad shape and even though the talk is that things are shaping up I find it hard to believe when the government (local and state) is cutting teachers, cops and firefighters as well as other jobs. It's still gonna be years before things settle down. Waiting for a perfect situation is OK as long as you are active during the wait.
Wishing ya the best of luck!“If you always do what you always did, you will always get what you always got.” (A. Einstein)

Hello, Dylan:
Good luck to you on the possible gig. I know it's tough early on to land somewhere, but let's hope someone with foresight at The Art of Shaving will realize your talent and knowledge and employ you. Keep hoping and may good fortune swim in your lane.
Regards,
Obie

It was said already, but it bears repeating:
Dude, as a native speaker with a Master's in Education, you could go just about anywhere in the world and teach English to classrooms full of collegechicksstudents. Trust me, it's not as bad as it sounds!
Hell, I did it without the Master's, so I know you'd be golden. If I were young and single again... I mean, ever thought about kicking it in Bali for a while?! That kind of thing. And you'd come back with teaching experience!
(Yes, I am dead serious. This is my serious face.)

Dylan:
If I may add to our good friend Adam's helpful thoughts, also please consider the Peace Crops. That's one of my regrets: that in the early years I did not consider the Peace Corps. What an honor to serve one's country in a noble cause. Imagine the contribution you can make to the people of the world.

NM State Police would actually be feasible since my mom is out there, but I look pretty terrible with a mustache.

Dylan,
First of all, best of luck and fingers crossed for your AOS application!
If you're looking for something else, Asia really is not a bad idea at all, especially if you go somewhere like Hong Kong. It really is "the" first world city to live in, IMO.
I've been here for 7 years now, and the place is friggin awesome to live in. Absolute first-world like you can't believe, and the salary tax is only 15.5%. You could always only do it for a year and then go back to the states if it's not what you thought.
Don't be under the wrong impression, there's more to Hong Kong than just concrete and high buildings. I live in the countryside, and here's a photo of the view from my living room; attached at the bottom of the post here for you.
They have something called the NET scheme (Native English Teacher).
Here's the website:
EDB - Native-speaking English Teacher (NET) Scheme
It really looks like you will be a prime candidate for them, and your basic salary will likely be somewhere between US$ 3000-6000 per month, and they give you a bonus if they like your performance. On top of that salary, they will give you an additional allowance of US$1800 per month because you are a foreigner.
This basically means that you will earn somewhere between 5-8K per month on average as far as I know, and it's only taxed at 15%.
I relocated to Hong Kong as an Airline pilot, but the demand for teachers is big around here mate.
Here's what your view could be like in Hong Kong; if you want it to be...
This is my house's view of the South China seas, and various islands.
