Thanked: 995Hmm, let's see: You cain't fix stupid.
Never argue with a fool, he'll drag you down to his level then beat you with experience.
Stupid as stupid does (since movies came up.) But it exemplifies the fact that intelligence does not have anything to do with how either smart or dumb people behave, sometimes.
The ideal of a Jeffersonian republic was founded on an educated voting populace. Someone has already noted that we have an under educated democracy.“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power.” R.G.Ingersoll

Thanked: 46I'm not what you'd call a music buff ... AT ALL ... and I STILL know who Keith Richards is. I don't know how he's still alive, but I know who he is.
My concern for kids (I'm 40 btw) isn't the variance in popular knowledge (which we really should expect) but the seeming inability to think critically and reason, as well as the consideration that everything they think of is somehow "new and original". My Dad used to say, "there's nothing new under the sun" and in essence he was pretty right.

For most kids today there wasn't anything interesting about the Civil war, not even the outcome. Maybe if you had asked him how to sync up an IPad and a laptop to download tunes off an encrypted WiFi you'd have gotten a more interesting response.

Thanked: 1371There's a difference between stupidity and ignorance.
I don't think people are dumber.
I do think people may be ignorant of some things, but there's probably a balance. I'm sure I am ignorant of some things that would be important to other people.
Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.
