Thread: Are people stupid or am I getting old?

tell me if this doesnt add to the age related feelings about stupidity, im 45, my son is 11, he found my old walkman, you old fogies like my self remember those things, they took cassettes, and i dont mean 8track, lol, he thought it was cool. but at first had no clue what it was.

Ha. My Sony mobile phone is a Walkman 850. In dog years it's like a Dodo .

after listening to this musical abortion i pointed out it was a poor mans rendition of the clash/metalica/papa roach/any punk band......... and that imho it sucked more metric tonnage of ass than had ever been sucked in recent history.... in fact i told him if his music sucked any more the internet along with the rest of us would collapse into a black hole of suckiness......

i got a blank stare............ sigh......

I made the mistake of voicing my opinion on some AWFUL cover of the song "Cry Little Sister" (remember that?) on youtube and ended up in a flame war with some militant little emo kid who wouldn't know decent metal if it walked up and stapled his b*lls to his forehead.

I then made the mistake of pointing out his so called sub culture was a marketing demographic which earned me the response "You can't beat me!". I have
no idea what he was talking about.

a colleague of mine did point out something to me once though. Every generation thinks they invented sex drugs and rock and roll.

Sad to think kids now are as far removed from bands like nirvana (who i don't like but appreciate the impact) and the whole "grunge" thing as i was from the sex pistols when i was growing my first chest hair and hating my parents.

I'm 37 and most days, I feel ancient! SWMBO is a high school science teacher so it always amazes me just how deep the ignorance runs in kids these days. They'd all still be in kindergarten if they'd been in school when I was...but then again, we had to walk to school 10 miles in the snow - uphill....both ways!!!

I am not old (35) in age or mindset. I am mature when the atmosphere dictates I be, but I am am not stuffy or dry. This current genration kinda sickens me. Too much convenience and availability out there for them to ply their lives with. This box I am on right now is one example. Some folks I know have 3-4 and more computers in ther homes. And they have NO KIDS! They use one for flight sim, one for gaming, one for work, etc. etc. I don't see the merit in it. I wouldn't consider myself an avid music buff, but growing up I listened to what my Mom listened to. Motown. Some light and classic rock. When I discovered music it was metal for me. I progressed onto Punk, Oi! and ska music. Nothing like it. I like harcore a lot and some metallic hardcore, but most of the kids today wouldn't know good music if it kicked them in the face!! Whatever happened to the droves of kids at shows like Agnostic Front, H2O, Warzone, Dropkick Murphys, The Business, Anti Heros etc. etc. etc. Skinny jeans and Vans don't make the punk!
