Thanked: 983I'll just ignore all those remarks about my own personal linage on account you may not know of my Welsh background (I suspect ya do ya bugger!) But I will say, those silly bloody English looking Puritan hats they use as part of the relatively recent invention of a national Welsh costume should be bloody well outlawed.

Puritan hats! Your right! I never made that connection, it was probably a devious plot by us to subvert your culture, having said that I did hear that one Lady Llanover popularised the wearing of said costume, but I digress, I still reckon Julia would look fetching sporting one, and there is the added bonus of the hat having plenty of room for a spare shoe

Not true in an absolute sense.
the problem is that in the primary race, the group of contestants quickly gets reduced to 3 or 4 contenders.
In the current primary, there are only 2 contenders left. I don't think Newt has a real chance of winning over a majority of the moderates who make the difference in the presidential elections.
Party line democrats and republicans don't matter in the election. They will vote part line even if the candidate is the gingerbread man.
The outcome is decided by the moderates sitting on the fence. They get to choose between 2 candidates. I don't realistically see them picking Newt Gingrich over Obama.
With Romney, I honestly think he has a shot of winning from Obama in the camp of the moderates who primarily want a stable economy at this point.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

I disagree. I think we need the most conservative candidate we can get. Romney is the least. I think people understand that only a conservative will be able to reverse what Obama has been doing.
Romney on the other hand will be attacked for Romney Care. That is his biggest problem. The Republican establishment and the Democrats want Romney because they know under him it will be business as usual. Business as usual will bring this country down. We will wind up in the same predicament as Europe. I'm not sure that even drastic action can save us from that at this point.
Our debt bill is coming due any time now and the world will dump the dollar.
All these problems are due to the Community Reinvestment Act and the Democrats, but the media is allowing them to get away with it and blame the Repubs.

Then you want Ron Paul.
However, realistically, at this point it will be Gingrich or Romney.
Of the 2, romney so far has the biggest chance of getting elected by the moderates who will decide the outcome.
I suspect that you would vote republican in the general election, no matter what.
that just means that for the outcome, your vote is irrelevant. You belong to a fixed block of voters, and you have your democrat counterparts. They don't matter either. They will vote, and they will vote for their party. The people who decide the final outcome of the general election are the ones who are in the middle and who might vote for a democrat OR a republican, based on which they perceive as the best.
In that regard, Newt has a smaller chance of making it with those people than Romney.
This is also why during the general election, candidates focus on the swing states, while e.g. Texas gets only token attention. Neither party can benefit from campaigning in Texas. In a very real way, the Texan voters don't matter in the campaign. The Texan vote is practically a given.
the ones who determine the outcome are the moderates in the middle.Last edited by Bruno; 02-02-2012 at 03:27 PM.
