Have you tried to pin the patch in place first and then check the position before sewing? Nice Patch!

I'm not sure your wife would be any more happy about that! Oh, you mean pay a tailor to sew it on...

What's the initials inside the patch - I can't make them out.

The initials are HK. They stand for Heckler Koch (a German firearms manufacturer).

At risk of asking an obvious question, did you baste the patch onto the hat before you started sewing around the border?

Well I started by pinning the patch and the patch would move during the hand sewing (no machine). Finally I pinned the patch in 5 places and sewed it on and that worked....but during the sewing and pinning I caused some of the threads in the patch to come loose which make up the letters, thats when I really messed it up trying to fix that...shortly after the patch cought on fire.

I just ordered another patch and a khaki flexfit hat...hopefully I can find a tailor lol.

Patches tend to wiggle a lot if you pin them in place. I find it works much better to just roughly sew the patch on in the middle using an octagon pattern (bigger is better, but keep it inside the border). The more times you go around and the more you stagger subsequent stitches, the less the patch will wiggle. It's easy to rip out if you put it on crooked, and there aren't any pins to get in the way when you do the actual sewing.
