But someone is going to have to pay for it, and since there is a large portion of the country that does not pay any taxes in the first place, the tax hike for not having health insurance isn't even going to effect them. So who is left holding the bill? You guessed it, the taxpayers, you and me.

Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.

Thanked: 3227Can't and won't comment on the US situation re health care under the new program. I can say I can't quite understand the furor the debt is causing. Most of the western industrialized world has had some form or another of national health care since at least post WWII and they don't seem to have had a bad standard of living because of it. My life has been spent in a country with a form of national health care for most of that time. I will not see it turned to privatized medicine. In Canada's case it has a long evolutionary history. For anyone interested in seeing how another country dealt with it Civilization.ca - History of Canadian Medicare - 1939-1948 - Introduction . I am sure the introduction of national health care was hotly debated here at the time also but I was too young to remember it personally. I will say that for me there is nothing inherently evil about it from my experience living in a country that has it. How it will or won't work out in the USA is anyone's guess though.

Thanked: 369I think what UWPete possibly means is that the $203,000 you paid into the program is spent, gone, kaput. In order for you to get any of that back requires the SSA to take funds from other peoples paychecks and give it to you, and me, and everyone else who paid into the program. That could be seen as a hand-out since the government is taking away from one person and handing it over to another. The problem with Ponzi schemes is that someone always gets screwed in the end.

Thanked: 369I think what most Americans in the U.S. find inherently evil is despotic forced redistribution of wealth. Those of you who don't find that inherently evil need to check your meters.
