The OP did not solicit advice. He asked a somewhat rhetorical question. Admittedly, I had to double-check to see if it was a medical boot or military boot. If it was a military boot, I'd have to ask him why he was only single-shod. There's no need for anyone to be defensive, as I was grinning and shaking my head when I wrote that.

All training advice aside, I am still under the persuasion that I'd rather be 'judged by twelve, than to be carried out by six'.

Now, everyone take a deep breath and say, "Costabro loves me".

You did what you had to do. Be it a knife, bat or claw hammer. He got the hint and you went home. That's what counts. Don't lose sleep over your decision. Some campuses are allowing concealed carry in the US now. He would surely have gotten a surprise had you leveled that Norinco 1911 at him......I call it bowel evacuation.

A knife in the hands of a skilled fighter is an awesome weapon and someone with such skills can take down a group of people in close quarters before they even know what's happening. As with any weapon it should only be pulled if you intend using it and when you do you continue to use it until the threat is neutralized.
