Well, you can't simply blame one side for dirty politics while ignoring the other. It wasn't that long ago and I vividly remember the death panels, the screaming in those town hall meetings, etc...

I thought we've taken the approach of talking more about the substance of the issues, and less about politicizing them. If we're reversing the course of the thread, I'd be on my way out.

Back to health care insurance - why is the private industry afraid to compete against the government? I mean if the government is always less efficient than the private sector, the later should easily be able to compete successfully and even if the profit margin is capped at 15% with an efficiency advantage they can surely win more customers by offering more bang for the buck and still increase the net profit.

Of course, if the government is allowed to play unfairly by subsidizing their costs from other taxes, that's a problem, but simple competition based on merit shouldn't be an issue. However, as far as I remember the 'public option' was scraped altogether in the name of bringing bipartisan support, though that didn't work at all.

That Gugi is a universal question. It's similar to when folks want to unionize, the stores and corporations tell them the Union just steals your money and the officers take vacations besides you don't need no union they won't do anything for you.

You would think they would welcome a union so that the employees would see how worthless they are and then vote them out.

At the same time the employers spend millions threatening workers and bringing in consultants to advise on how to derail organizing. Now why would they bother to do this?

America will be just fine. I've been hearing the same "gloom and doom" crap about every newly-elected president since Nixon, and America's still here.
The American people have spoken. Deal.

    Default Obama won re election

I agree with MLA, it will take a lot more than an elected official to ruin this country. We would have to have a series of nutters elected in a row to run this country under.

I suppose some of it has to do with spending your capital to advertise and build a business base only to compete against someone who can easily subsidize their business without care about reserves or regulation, and who at the same time can write the rules.

I can't think of too many businesses where the government grants themselves the right to compete with business.

This is a bit of victimhooding. The intimidation is done from both sides, as is the lobbying.
