Thanked: 247Say it ain't so Lance
I feel for him. He did it all wrong, but he did work very hard. It's gotta hurt to see the results of all that effort get trashed or taken away.
He has some serious talent, I would never deny him that...just like I would not deny that almost every evil ruler in history was brilliant on some level...but they still chose to use their talents for bad.
I would rather lose clean than win dirty. And winning clean is truly glorious, but winning in cycling is quite difficult

Thanked: 1184This is the way of the world. I have to take a drug test to get a job to work my butt off to break even. But if there is a spot light on you then for some reason it's okay unless you get caught some how. They sell their souls to be your idols.
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

I only heard a little about it, but they mentioned 1 specific quote which I found telling: 'I took it because it was impossible to win the tour without it'. Which implies that the entire competition was taking.
It's probably always like this. The only difference between Eddy Merckx and Lance Armstrong is that in Eddy's day, drug testing was still in its infancy.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

Just heard a snippet on the radio that Lance said, in the interview .... that he doped to 'create a level playing field.' I find that understandable. I don't condone the practice of doping but it is worth noting that not everyone who takes steroids is suddenly able to hit 60+ home runs in a season or to win the tour de France 7 times.

Thanked: 3228About the only good thing you can use him for now is an illustration of what a bad example is.

Thanked: 15I think we are all missing a bigger point in all of this, how can any of the athleats today be compared to the ones of yester years? I mean look at the drug use for one, even like muscle milk, new equeptiment based on science, now athleats are being trained from when they are in grade school almost like being farm grown. I have lost faith in there being true athleats no one today will ever compare to when these sports were first created. thats my small rant for today.
