Is there an actual link to the WHOLE speech for us to read or are you going to quote out of context as usual to further your own agenda???

I'm just sick of what the republicans are trying to do with this whole situation. At least there's automatic military cuts on 1 March to look forward to, hopefully everything goes through with that.

Guys. Ryan is warming up and Scienceguy is going off. I know this whole political thing has evolved into something ugly. The gun thing has come along with it, it would seem. We have members here with many different continents, countries, views, leanings, religions, and shaving preferences. I want to apoligize for entering into this discussion. It truly does no good. I feel the conversation should be void of politics, period. This IS Straight Razor Place. Democrat, Republican, Independent, Whatever, Us Americans are a percentage of this forum. We have respected members the world over. I, for one, would like to forward a motion which will help the forum and keep sooooom members from leaving or being banned. It seems to be an ongoing issue. Lets keep what we have in common, and treasure it, lest we lose it. Straight Razors! Lifestyles related. Just not politics. Plenty places to do that! Please take this into consideration and PLEASE bash me ,if you will!
    Thanks,
    Tom

Sorry for venting a little. Agreed, save it for a political forum.

If you don't like your president, may be you shouldn't keep electing him - just an idea.
    Same thing with congress.

This is the Conversation Forum so one can either choose or not choose to get involved in any discussion put forth. Members may not always agree, but as long as the discussion is conducted in a gentlemenly fashion, what's the harm in discussing/debating any topic? The Mods get involved if and when needed. A good spirited discussion is always good to keep one's mind open.

Not to , but in the wake of the recent tradegy involving guns and the president's vow to end gun violence, this has got to be one of the worst metaphors he could use:

"I’m happy to have that conversation. What I will not do is to have that negotiation with a gun at the head of the American people..."

Poor poor choice of analogy and words. Thanks to Gssixgun and 10pups for the links.

I don't want to get too into this for fear of hijacking the thread, but I just think we've been far over-reaching with our military for far too long and that its size needs to be decreased. Wars seem to be great for the economy, and that is a huge problem. Eisenhower was famous for warning us against the military-industrial complex, and I think the more that spending on the military is pared down, the closer we'll get to solving this problem. When we're spending almost half of total world military spending, that's a problem. (World Military Spending; disclosure, this is not my field so I don't know exactly how those spending figures are calculated)
