The Constitution?
Obama made a speech today where he told Congress that "if they don't want to make the hard choice and raise the debt limit, they can give me the power and I will make the hard choice for them."
Is he kidding? He's supposed to be an expert on the Constitution. This is a HUGE power grab. Only Congress can spend money.
Article. I. Section. 8.
The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;
No mention of the Executive Branch in there. Article 1 is the FIRST thing in the Constitution, therefore it is the most important to the Founders. Congress doesn't have the power to allow the President to raise the debt limit. It would require an Amendment.
This President gets more scarey every day. He acts like he's never even read the Law of the Land.

Considering the context in which it was written, I would have been shocked if taxation had not been item #1!
It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

Sorry if I don't get the quote exactly right, but if I recall he made a comment early in the first term about the Constitution standing in the way of what he wanted to do. Scary days ahead indeed.

I have never seen a leader of this country divide and confuse the consituancy and elected leaders into non-existance, whist he does his own bidding in my lifetime. Nor have I ever heard of it done since it was abolished before Harry Truman. In my lifetime, the President would listen to the Congress, Representatives, and constituants, before overriding and vetoing. No more. What the people want is mute. Sorry to be political, but facts are facts. JMO

I rest my case.

I'm just sick of what the republicans are trying to do with this whole situation. At least there's automatic military cuts on 1 March to look forward to, hopefully everything goes through with that.
