Man that sucks! I can only imagine how you felt. I've learned to treat all my friends and family like complete morons when it comes to my razors - the risk of damage to property or person is too high. Out of sight out of mind!

+1 to keeping away people from razors. That way, both are much safer.
People tend not to understand that razors can be expensive or irreplaceable.

I'd take to her with a good stout wombat if I were you, but I'm probably a bit soft...

intentionally destroying her cell phone here in ny may a misdemeanor (criminal destruction of property or some such stupidity).... most likely you will get a fine and have to pay for her new phone. and her mom will be much less likely to visit.
it is always the victim's own fault that they were victimized ... so like everyone said lock your jewels, guns and razors away.

once somebody tried the edge of a reaper i had just gotten on the shipping box it came in... I applied "the hand of wisdom" to her "seat of learning" repetitively.

I've been thinking about this. Yes, accidents happen. Yes, had the razor not been locked up, we would not be here now. But, I, too, would have been sent into orbit with the statement after the event; "whats the big deal, it was already broken, I didnt do it".

Intentionally destroying her phone would be wrong. But, a "what's the big deal, it slipped and fell into my super sweet Blendtec Blender, I didn't mean to do it", works for me!

Just make sure it's a Blendtec, don't trust a retaliation phone grinding to a lesser blender, the Blendtec will get it done!!!

When I was her age living with my father, this would have never happened......NEVER. Not only would I have known better to even touch it, the idea, there mere possibility of delivering such a flippant remark after mistreating it would be simply unthinkable. It wouldn't be your business to worry about correcting this behavior. If it were to happen, the next time you saw me I'd be in a full body cast. My father's way of delivering a message would make Stalin look subtle - cold as the sickle and hard as the hammer that crossed it. You simply didn't make these kinds of mistakes with him around.....better yet, while he was alive.

A razor is just a razor,a child is a human being.Children are never allowed in my shop as there are just to many dangerous things to get into.
IMO, the O.P is the one at fault, not the child.

    Unfortunate, very unfortunate.

While I understand your feelings on this, the reasonable thing would be to sit down with her and explain that 1) razors are dangerous 2) they are fragile 3) they are collectibles, and as such quite valuable 4) the loss hurt you.

Who knows, she might even own up to her mistake and offer to in some way reimburse you.
Be it to help out around the yard or give you part of her allowance or something like that.
If not, the parent bloody well should..

The best solution is make clear to the parent the child is not welcome. It's also a good test of friendship.

    Brilliant, absolutely brilliant!!!
