That's OK Mick, the language my vary by place, but the end result is universal.

Well, there is nothing to be gotten from the mom. And how does one put a value on such a thing to determine a punishment? How does one "restore" broken ivory/whalebone? (never did figure out the dif)

Rubber mats on the floor of the work area would have made no difference, as the razor was carried out of the work room, and was dropped in the kitchen.
As I said, I have no clue as to the why of all of this.
A simple "Im sorry" would have been enough. I didnt even get that.
And people wonder why I dont have any kids of my own? or why I am headed to liver failure?

That's one of the qualities I try and instil in my girls, always admit when you make a mistake, it might not save you from getting into trouble, but it sure as hell will save you from digging yourself deeper into trouble.

Everyone will make mistakes, what defines character is how one deals with them. When my kids came to me to tell me of things that they had destroyed, I'd always thank them first, for telling me, then tell them that we'll just see what we could do about it. After the fact, I may and did at times go out of their sight and kick the tree a few times, but my efforts have paid off very well for me with the young woman and man I have now.

Perhaps you should have shown the young lady the strop and all it's many household uses I don't have a razor near that fancy but I'm attached to them all. I know the desire must have been overwhelming but it's probably not a great idea. Had it been my Mom or Dad though and I broke someone's stuff, I undoubtedly would have received a patented 1975 ass kickin' right in front of the plaintiff and been told that for the next 4 weekends I'm his personal lawn boy.

Sounds like there is no respect for you or your property from this kid. Your work area needs a lock & key on it to prevent any repeat performance.

Things are just things, the important lessons here for me is to value the relationship rather than the possession, to love the person rather than the possession, and to show love and humility rather than pride and vengeance.

I'm not saying I wouldn't get angry and rave and rant and maybe even violent, but I'm lucky I have God and my wife to make me see sense, most of the time.

The relationship, in my opinion, may need some building, some connecting. Hateful acts will only make it worse, even a lock and key may only make it worse. I think love and understanding is what's called for, but that's just my opinion as I type being in a lovey-dovey (non wombat wielding) mood)...

I offer this as a foil to the current theme of violence. I know I am also guilty of this by suggesting a going over with a wombat, as silly as it was (and was meant to be) I now see it as feeding into a negative theme.

There is for me some disturbing (even if well meant) imagery I'm getting from this topic, and I'd like to try and challenge that and nudge this in a more positive (in my opinion) direction.

    Let's get lovey-dovey..
