Bruno, when you say he looked stunned, I saw a man that was humbled. I think they made a very good choice. They are touting him as a man of the people, I hope he works out as such.

From what I have read of him he is a person with a very simple and active faith, sticking to the basics. I truly hope he can restore peoples faith in the church. Personally, I think the cardinals have done well. God bless.

In my opinion, the right man for the job. As a Jesuit, he should be well versed in missionary work rather than the monastic life of other orders, helping him to relate better to the majority of the Catholic population. I do believe it is a change for the better and will hopefully bring Catholicism closer to the 21st century.

Not a Catholic, but I do understand the importance of it. I like the positive comments. I like the outcome myself!
"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.

I don't know if I would say he is the exact right man for the job at this time. It would of been better to have had him elected at the time Benedict was elected. Now at his advanced age he effectively becomes another caretaker Pope.
Now with that said and with his background he may be able to put into motion quickly some things to change the church for the better.
His age and time as cardinal will give a good footing to clean up the papal Curia which is really not looking good over the last couple years.
I was also happy to see a Jesuit priest ascended to the papal seat.
Overall a good man for the job but would of liked a younger man.

I have to agree with you guys, although not Catholic myself, I do realize that when unbelievers think of the church as a whole they think first of the Catholic church. The abuses of children in recent years does all of us great harm, not to mention the devastation put upon the victims. This needs remedied. I do not expect this man to be the cure all, but I do sincerely hope that he can muster the good men of the church together and do some serious house cleaning. Secondly, this guy seems to be the "hands on" type and a natural leader that gets things done. I truly pray for the best and ask that you do too. Good people of all faiths need a light in this seemingly chaotic world.
