Nicely done. Looks great.
My first rescale was in Purple Heart and I still use it a lot, one of my faves.
As these guys have said, slow and steady with a small polished ball peen. I use a 2oz cross peen and a 4oz ball peen, both polished.
If you get your pens light enough you don't need heaps of polishing.

Thanked: 3215I polish and de-burring my washer prior to pinning by gluing to a coffee stir stick with CA, then cut 4-5 inches off a round bamboo chopstick. Chuck into a drill press and put a dab of metal polish on the tip of the chopstick and buff at a slow speed and light pressure.
To polish the pins first dress the cut with a fine file and polish before pinning by running the end on a buffing wheel. After pinning tape as Pix recommended and polish with another chopstick with a dab of diamond paste or chrome ox and metal polish. Drill a small hole in the end of the chopstick for domed pins.
A piece of wood with 1/8 in hole in it or a ¼ in piece of craft foam will keep the finished razor from dancing on the table & marring your scales.
You can get your pins and washers smooth and gleaming in a few minutes.
Nice work.

I like Pixel's hammer.

I use tiddle"s method myself. Takes time to gain the finesse but just take it slow it will come. You will be surprised as you pick it up. Job well done!! Looks good! Keep the faith!!

Thanks for all the tips! Lots of "tools" to put into the "toolbox" for further projects. I'm half tempted to create a "lead filled spoon" hammer just to see what SWMBO says....
Anyway, my Norton 1K and DMT 325 came in a day after I posted this, and last night I had some time while my wife was putting my son to bed. I taped up the razor and started working on the 1K. This is my first time setting the bevel with a 1K, so there was a lot of learning, especially about the rolling x. Aside: My last restore involved a long time on a 4K...and I might take that razor back to the 1K, because it's irritating my skin; I don't think the bevel is set right. At any rate, I worked on the 1K until the loupe showed a purty, even bevel, and then got about 5 sets of 5 light/no pressure rolling-x's on the 4K until my son finally went to sleep and my wife came out.
Tonight, on a whim, I did 10 strokes on the CrOx, 30 on linen, and 80 on leather with the intent of just shaving under my sideburns to see how much more work I needed. I shaved my entire face. With no irritation. It's glorious. I'm going to take it back to the 8K just to polish it up, but I am absolutely, truly flabbergasted at the results from just a 1K and a 4K. Wow.Last edited by Kalloran; 08-19-2013 at 02:45 AM.
